**Research Assistant**

**Job Overview**

An integral member of NAFC’s Policy and Research team, the Research Assistant provides research and analytical support in the form of research recruitment activities, research engagement support, survey development, evaluation development, and general research support. To build capacity within urban Indigenous communities, Research Assistant will conduct community-driven research that supports the diverse missions and visions of the Friendship Centre Movement.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Project support for the Urban Indigenous Perspectives on End-of-Life Care/Palliative Care Project that includes, but is not limited to:

- Developing a literature review, engagement process support, project evaluation;
- Compile and provide analysis of information on issues specific to urban Indigenous people;
- Assist with Community-Driven research projects;
- Write and edit materials for publication and presentation;
- Participate in the planning and execution of research proposals and projects;
- Gather and analyze information on demographic, economic, social, and political topics of relevance to urban Indigenous people and communities;
- Meet regularly with supervisor to discuss research assignments;
- Assist in writing reports, presentations and briefing materials as required; and
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Policy and Research team.

**Qualifications**
- Strong research and writing skills; such as experience with transcription writing and survey development;
- Prior experience in research, data collection, and analysis, including strong knowledge of research methodologies;
- Willingness to learn new skills and keep track of individual progress;
- Demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking;
- Comprehensive knowledge of software and data management tools, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams), Smartsheet, Survey Monkey, and Zoom;
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills;
- Flexibility and adaptability with tasks
- Knowledge and understanding of NAFC’s priorities, mandate, organizational structure, and the Friendship Centre Movement is an asset;
- Minimum three years of experience working with urban Indigenous communities;
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as social sciences, Indigenous studies, or a related discipline; alternatively a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills and abilities;
- Must be able to travel across Canada and Internationally, if needed.
- The ability to work in both official languages is an asset. Fluency in an Indigenous language is also an asset.

Membre à part entière de l’équipe chargée des politiques et de la recherche, l’assistante ou l’assistant à la recherche fournit une aide à la recherche et à l’analyse sous la forme d’activités de recrutement de chercheuses et de chercheurs, de soutien à l’engagement de la recherche, d’élaboration d’enquêtes, de création d’évaluations et de soutien général à la recherche. Afin de renforcer les capacités des communautés autochtones urbaines, l’assistante ou l’assistant à la recherche mènera des recherches axées sur la communauté qui soutiennent les diverses missions et visions du Mouvement des Centres d’amitié.

**Principales responsabilités**
- Soutien au projet "Urban Indigenous Perspectives on End-of-Life Care/Palliative Care", qui comprend, sans s'y limiter:

- l'élaboration d'une analyse documentaire, le soutien au processus d'engagement, l'évaluation du project;
- Compiler et analyser les renseignements sur les questions propres aux populations autochtones urbaines;
- Participer à des projets de recherche menés par la communauté;
- Rédiger et réviser les documents aux fins de publication et de présentation;
- Participer à la planification et à l’exécution de projets de recherche;
- Recueillir et analyser les renseignements sur des sujets de nature démographique, économique, sociale et politique pertinents pour les populations et les communautés autochtones urbaines;
- Rencontrer régulièrement les responsables de la supervision pour discuter des travaux de recherche;
- Participer à la rédaction de rapports, de présentations et de documents d’information, le cas échéant;
- Effectuer d'autres tâches connexes confiées par l'équipe chargée de la politique et de la recherche.
