New employees must provide documentation of a 2-step TB screening, as well as proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox) prior to their start date at St. Mary’s General Hospital. Staff will require clearance from Employee Health and Wellness before they are able to begin any position within SMGH.

**Position Summary**:
The Admitting Clerk, Outpatient Booking performs documentation/clerical duties to facilitate complete and accurate booking of patient appointments in a timely, caring and confidential manner.

**Position Responsibilities**:

- Manage high volume bookings of elective outpatient appointments for specific departments through Cerner Scheduling as appropriate via telephone, faxing and Ocean mediums
- Manage Endoscopy block surgical bookings following approved guidelines and processes
- Pre-registration of patients as per protocol through Novari and Cerner
- Receive and transfer calls to other departments as appropriate
- Relay appropriate information regarding test preparation/instructions
- Transcribe accurate scheduling notes/instructions for medical, technical and clerical staff reference
- Responsible for distribution of St. Mary's booking requisitions to physicians' offices
- Deliver booked requisitions to appropriate departments within St. Mary's

Other duties as assigned

**Position Requirements**:

- Minimum Grade 12 Diploma
- Successful completion of a formal medical terminology program
- Keyboard at 60wpm plus experience with Cerner and Novari Systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work and function efficiently under stressful situations
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to prioritize effectively
- Must have a pleasant and professional telephone manner
- Positive work record; good attendance is essential
