**Job Title: Community Outreach/Reception Worker**
**Reports To: Program and Volunteer Coordinator**
**Rate: $18.68/hour**
**Job Type: Part time/3 days a week**
**Deadline: Open till filled**
EFSM is located on Treaty 1 territory on original lands of Anishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and on the homeland of the Metis Nation.
The Elizabeth Fry Society of Manitoba is an Indigenous, independent non-profit organization which aims to empower, provide support, advocacy and guidance to women who are involved or have the potential to be involved in the legal system.
PURPOSE
The Community Outreach Worker will report to the Program Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for the delivery of services in our drop-in center, resident and community support, skill development, driving participants to appointments to meet their reintegration needs - while meeting the key responsibilities and accountabilities to the Agency. The Community Outreach Worker will ensure the needs and well being of each of their assigned participants are at the forefront of all endeavors while building a relationship of trust.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Experience and understanding of Traditional Indigenous teaching, ceremonies and Truth and Reconciliation
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Maintains regular communication and collaboration with Management, staff, participants, stakeholders and community.
- To provide short term individual support to women in the community and those living in residence.
- Provide support and services under a holistic lens in accordance with the self-identified needs of the Service Recipient.
- Knowledge of the impacts that colonization, residential schools, the 60’s scoop, the child welfare system and the genocide of Indigenous peoples, has had on their culture and language and sacred teachings.
- Work as a team to provide mental health/addiction supports to participants.
- Relays accurate program and agency information.
- In collaboration with the Reintegration worker, refer community women to resources that meet their basic needs of food, clothing, and shelter; Indigenous cultural and/or spiritual care, employment, and literacy support.
- To provide transportation for women in the Bail and Verification Program to attend appointments and external programs with outside organizations as needed.
- To lead the coordination of the clothing depot.
- Manage the overall functioning of the drop-in center.
- Setting up and light housekeeping in the drop in and kitchen area
- Maintain ongoing statistical information.
- Ensure that information in client files is up to date.
- Must be completely versed in the Elizabeth Fry Society of Manitoba’s (the “Agency”) policies and procedures manual and able to interpret and make decisions that adhere to this manual as part of their day-to-day job duties.
**INTERACTION WITH THE PUBLIC**:
Staff must have the demonstrated ability to interact respectfully with a diverse population on a variety of sensitive topics.
Required to maintain a professional working relationship with all clients, setting proper worker client boundaries.
Must disclose any conflicts of interest, including familial or acquaintance affiliation with any participants accessing our program.
**WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT**:
Staff must have demonstrated capacity to exercise the following:
- Ability to work flexible hours, when necessary, as determined by the Executive Director
- Possess the mental competencies required in multi-tasking
- Ability to demonstrate effective time management and be particularly successful in managing interruptions (which may require constantly refocusing attention to a variety of duties)
- Ability to manage interruptions with respect to inquiries from clients as well as community drop-ins
- Ability to comply with deadlines as directed by the Executive Director on a variety of assignments
- Possess the necessary communication and networking skills to build professional relationships with institutional staff, members of the community, clients, the Winnipeg Police Service, and relevant community agencies
**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**:
Staff should be aware of the following requirements:
- Staff will be working outside of the office in numerous settings including attending women’s places of residence or the locations of collaterals
- Staff will be working in an office setting at a desk, using office equipment and a computer
- Staff may be required to lift supplies and materials from time to time
**KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED**:
- A post-secondary degree or certificate in a social services field is required, or a combination of education and experience relevant to the position
- Understanding and working knowledge of the criminal justice system
- Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of colonialism on Indigenous women
- Excellent analytical and/or problem-solving skil
