Outreach Support Worker

**JOB PURPOSE**:The Outreach Worker promotes independent living skills and community integration by providing outreach and respite services to adults living with intellectual disabilities.
**CHARACTERISTIC JOB DUTIES**:
- enhance member inclusion (relationships & communication, community participation)
- realize members’ chosen outcomes (activities, life skills & tasks, transportation assistance)
- foster member wellbeing and safety (counseling & personal support, clean & safe environs, behavior management, personal care)
- maintain member and program documentation (member files, shift tracking forms, time sheets, mileage sheets, communication books)
- ensure timely and effective member-centered communication (communication with program office; incident & abuse reporting; appropriate communication with member’s entire support team)
- maintain professional deportment (communication; dress; interactions with co-workers, other professionals, & public; confidentiality)
- actively engage in work life (orientation & training, team meetings, performance planning & evaluation, acquiring required or value-added skills)
- follow all applicable policies (review regularly, recommend improvements & additions)
**Position Qualifications**
**MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL ATTAINED**:The successful job applicant will have a high school diploma or Foundations In Disability & Community Support certificate. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
**SPECIAL LICENSES, DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATES, OR REQUIREMENTS**:
- St John Ambulance Standard First Aid & CPR “A” or equivalent (_within six weeks of hiring - must be obtained before working alone_)
- Valid Manitoba Class V driver license
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (_as available - will be considered an asset on hiring_)
- American Sign Language (_will be considered an asset on hiring_)
**PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED**:The performance of the job requires: occasional written record keeping; occasional physical care (may include manual or assisted transfers); regular recreational activities; frequent standing, sitting, walking, & reaching; and rare use of physical behaviour intervention techniques.
**MENTAL EFFORT/SKILLS REQUIRED**:Performance of the job requires attentive listening & observation of body language; continuously monitoring the environment; occasional multi-tasking; reading, writing, & basic arithmetic; some memory & concentration; some reasoning & judgment; some creativity & imagination; and the ability to understand members’ needs.
**RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL RESOURCES**:The incumbent may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash for activities, but has no input into the annual budget.
**RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUMAN RESOURCES**: The incumbent is responsible for his or her own time and effort only. The incumbent will not provide formal orientation to new employees, but may be asked to share knowledge of work methods and routines.
**WORK ENVIRONMENT**: The incumbent’s typical work environment is in the community, with some activities based in day program facilities or members’ residences. The incumbent may be isolated, may have a work schedule affecting lifestyle, and may be exposed to domestic cleaning supplies and bodily fluids/wastes.

- minor to moderate exposure to risk of traffic accidents when driving
