Maitland B. Steinkopf (MBS) Residence operates residential facilities for persons living with disabilities, while also providing a community-outreach program geared towards supporting individuals living within their own homes. MBS Residence conducts day programs twice a week for our residents as well other community residents. MBS Residence strives to provide respectful, compassionate, individual-centered care fostering an atmosphere of dignity and inclusiveness.

Outreach Workers with MBS Residence will be responsible for their assigned client case management, which may include but is not limited to liaising with doctors, family services, clients’ families, transportation, etc. Outreach Workers will fulfill the day-to-day requirements of each of their assigned clients and ensure that the individual’s needs, safety and well-being are at the forefront of all endeavors, while building a relationship of trust.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Will assist the client with and provide instruction on necessary life skills where required and encourage independent participation as much as possible
- Ensure that all assigned clients are participating in appropriate daily programs and activities and will assist the client in assessing any new opportunities
- Encourage independence and making independent choices as opportunities present, while also guiding with suggestions as to the best courses of action
- Assist the individual in developing social skills
- Assist in emergency situations
- Ensure that the Outreach Program Manager and/or the Programs Manager is informed immediately of serious medical conditions or accidents
- Upon receipt of Agency funds, will assume the responsibility for the management and/or distribution of said funds
- Complete and submit case notes daily
- Ensure all appropriate forms and reports are completed and submitted on time
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

- High School graduation certification required
- Post-secondary education regarding health care aide or within a similar discipline are an asset
- Experience in areas such as respite work, in-home care, personal intensive care and food preparation are an asset
- Other relevant training will be provided

This position requires all applicants to have a clear and current Criminal Record check, Child Abuse Registry check, and Adult Abuse Registry check; they must be less than 3 months old. If you do not yet have these documents, or require financial assistance to obtain them, we will assist you with applying.

TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS:

- Valid Manitoba Driver’s License and a Driver’s Abstract* are all required
- Must have your own vehicle with a recent Safety* (< 12 months old)
- All-purpose insurance and $2 million in 3rd party liability are required*

All travel expenses are paid by the employer. *Employer will reimburse for cost of Driver’s Abstract, Safety Inspection (not including any require repairs), as well as any additional insurance costs to meet the requirements noted above.
