Chief Kinosew Awasak Mikwahp (Driftpile Children’s Lodge) is a community-based and family-oriented organization dedicated to providing care, protection, and well-being for all Driftpile Cree Nation children in a preventative manner, promoting healing for children, families, and the community. A coordinated, holistic, and interdisciplinary approach forms the foundation of the Agency, ensuring that the developmental needs of children, youth, and families are met with respect for their cultural identity, customs, traditions, beliefs, and values.

**JOB OVERVIEW**: The Custodian, reporting to the Director of Operations, will be responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and orderly environment within the office. This role involves performing various cleaning duties to ensure the safety and comfort of employees and visitors. The incumbent will assist with preparing the Edmonton office for opening, and general maintenance of the office thereafter. This position requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to complete tasks independently or as part of a team. Presentability of the office to the general public and visitors is of utmost importance and requires diligence with task completion.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**_ General Cleanliness & Maintenance_**
- Routinely conduct general cleaning of the office environment while the renovation workers are completing their work, prior to the Edmonton office opening and thereafter.
- Adhere to all Chief Kinosew Awasak Mikiwahp procedures and health and safety protocols.
- Dust surfaces, fixtures, desks, tables, and other furniture in offices and common areas.
- Dispose of trash and hazardous materials.
- Sanitize high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, and handrails.
- Inspect facilities for maintenance issues such as broken fixtures, leaks, or damage to walls and flooring; and prepare relevant maintenance request documents as required.
- Report larger maintenance and repair needs to the supervisor.
- Replace light bulbs, air filters, and minor fixtures as needed.
- Assist in event setups and breakdowns, such as moving tables, chairs, and equipment.
- Move furniture and equipment for proper cleaning, ensuring all surfaces are sanitized before returning items to their correct places.
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals.
- Ensure floors are dry and free from hazards to prevent slips and falls.
- Secure doors, windows, and alarms when necessary to maintain building security.
- Respond to emergency cleaning situations such as spills, biohazards, or restroom issues.
- Weather permitting, early morning shifts may be required to ensure facilities are ready for staff and client arrival.
- Willing to work the necessary hours for community events, on-call/after hours, and as needed.
- Perform other related duties, as required.

**_Restroom & Kitchen_**
- Wash and sanitize dishes, cutlery, pots, pans, and cooking supplies in compliance with AHS guidelines.
- Order and restock toiletries and soap dispensers as needed.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, sinks, toilets, and urinals.

**_Trash & Waste Disposal_**
- Empty and remove trash from bins throughout the office.
- Sort and dispose of recyclable materials according to guidelines.
- Ensure outdoor trash and recycling bins are properly maintained and not overflowing.

**_Floor & Carpet Maintenance_**
- Operate floor cleaning machines/equipment such as buffers, carpet cleaners, and brooms.
- Remove stains from carpets and hard flooring using appropriate cleaning methods.
- Monitor flooring conditions and report any necessary repairs.

**_Seasonal_**
- Perform seasonal maintenance, including manual snow and ice removal, grass and weed management, watering grass and flower beds, maintaining the sprinkler system, cleaning gutters, and removing debris.
- Perform periodic and seasonal deep cleaning duties as scheduled by the supervisor.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- At least 1 year of experience in custodial services preferred.
- WHMIS and First Aid certification preferred but can be obtained upon hire.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions and guidelines.
- Strong ability to work independently with mínimal supervision, demonstrating excellent time management skills.
- Good hand-eye-foot coordination.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to focus on multiple tasks and effectively prioritize.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Clear Police Information Check upon hire.
- Reliable transportation or the ability to effectively use public transit is essential.
