Facilitator for The just Like You Program

**Overview**
Variety - the Children’s Charity of Alberta (Variety Alberta) is a charitable organization that supports children with disabilities and specialized needs.
We are seeking a facilitator to deliver the Just Like You Disability Awareness Diversity Acceptance education program to children from kindergarten to grade 8 in schools.
Just Like You is a series of fun interactive workshops delivered to build understanding, acceptance and inclusion of individuals living with a disability and/or differences.
This program will be delivered in both an online and face-to-face delivery model depending on where the presentations are booked (in relation to where the facilitator lives).
**The Role**
The Just Like You program is delivered through an empathy lens and led by a person who lives with a disability themselves. As the Facilitator you will deliver a scripted PowerPoint program for children in kindergarten to grade 8.
You will receive comprehensive training and materials that will help guide your learning of the program, however you will use your own lived experience and respond to the unique needs of each class to impart a meaningful and impactful message.
**Key Duties and Responsibilities**
- Deliver 10 key workshops to children from kindergarten to grade 8
- Track presentations and gather teacher evaluations
- Confirm student/teacher numbers for presentation statistics
- You may also be asked to help with the outreach in booking schools and helping to create the presentation schedules.
NOTE: Kindergarten presentations are 30 minutes in length and grades 1 to 6 are 45 minutes each.
Because the position is based around school hours and presentation booking dates the position is a casual one, with the number of hours fluctuating from week to week.
**Personal Characteristics**
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Is comfortable speaking in front of children and adults.
- Able to express ideas clearly and effectively and can engage and understand group dynamics.
- Can lead a discussion with children and help them understand that people with disability are the same as everyone else - they are “Just Like You”.
- Must be a people focused person, self-motivated, and open to receiving and utilizing feedback.
