- The Research and Development department is organized to fulfill its primary responsibilities for addressing student achievement, student assessment, reporting to parents and providing research services and resources. The underlying goals will be to improve student achievement and maintain and enhance public confidence in public schools and the public school system. _
- Reporting to the Senior Manager, the Research Coordinator, will be responsible for supporting senior management _in carrying out the responsibilities of the department, including developing policies and procedures and setting priorities.**Summary of Duties**:

- Support senior management in the operation of the department.
- Provide research and information services to the system by operationalizing Board initiatives and supporting Education Offices, schools, and other departments.
- Plan and co-ordinate projects with the following areas of focus:

- Student assessment;
- School improvement and quality indicators;
- Research services;
- Program evaluation;
- Data interpretation and information services;
- Staff development;
- Carry out key project activities to assess and improve student learning, based on current research, theories of learning, and best practices.
- Prepare proposals and reports for the Board and Senior Staff.
- Develop internal and external communications, including supporting the department and system websites to disseminate assessment, research and Board-wide information.
- Provide descriptions of department activities for internal publications.
- Present research findings and recommendations to a variety of audiences, internal and external.
- Build capacity within the system to understand research and assessment information and materials for the purpose of continuous improvement for schools, programs, and student learning with respect to student safety and well-being.
- Develop school and system profiles.
- Develop graphic and visual presentations of information.
- Prepare articles for publication in professional journals and books when appropriate.
- Write research proposals to solicit external funds.
- Support the Board’s participation in provincial, national and international projects.
- Provide expertise and support to external agencies and partnerships on test development, analysis of data and reporting.
- Respond to requests for information and advice from educators and researchers in other jurisdictions.
- Maintain partnerships with universities, and community and government agencies.
- Represent the Board on various external committees or task forces and at conferences.
- Evaluate relevant research from other jurisdictions.
- Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of programs and services.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Masters degree in a relevant discipline and specialized training in quantitative and qualitative research design, with four to seven years in a research position in an educational environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- In depth experience using a strand of Critical Theory as a central perspective in applied research processes.
- Advanced knowledge or specialization in an educational research methodology with general understanding of a variety of methodologies used in applied research including statistical procedures, data management and data interpretation.
- Advanced computer skills and extensive familiarity with software programs for data collection, data management, data analysis, graphic presentations and report generation.
- Knowledge of educational testing, measurement and program evaluation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Project management skills.
- Ability to facilitate workshops and professional development for educators.
- Prior experience working in an educational setting with teachers, curriculum leaders, principals and superintendents.
- Experience in recognizing and responding to sensitive ethical and political issues.
