**Working for Finance, Procurement and Planning**

Finance, Procurement and Planning is responsible for financial reporting, resource planning, procurement, investments & treasury, and risk management & insurance. We have a team of service partners who work closely with the faculties, units and staff across the institution to provide excellent client service.

Our Investments & Treasury team provides the university with strategic leadership and oversight of its cash flow, banking services and investment portfolio. They ensure the university's cash flow is managed effectively and that sufficient liquidity is maintained to meet the university's obligations. The team also continuously evaluates investment opportunities and strategies in order to maintain the long-term value of the University Endowment Pool and the Non Endowed Investment Pool.

**Position**

Reporting to the Assistant Treasurer, the Cash Management Specialist monitors the University's cash balances and money market investments. Forecasting future cash inflows and outflows ensures funds are available to meet the University's liquidity needs. This position invests excess funds in money market products as part of the Non Endowed Investment Pool's (NEIP) ~$300 million Liquidity strategy. The Cash Management Specialist liaises between University staff and bank contacts to resolve transactional and procedural issues, and supports the rest of the Investment and Treasury team with cash transfers and capital calls. In addition, share donations are received, processed, and reported upon.

**Duties**

Cash Management and Cash Forecasting
- Monitor balances and transactions within the University's bank, investment, and custodial accounts, generally through online access to various websites.
- Project and forecast large cash flows up to one year in advance.
- Initiate transfers between bank accounts or banks, daily or as needed.

Investments
- Monitor Custodial cash balances daily, key fund transfers, capital calls, and distributions.
- Evaluate investment options and risk factors before investing surplus funds.
- Invest NEIP Liquidity strategy funds in permitted investments, as per policy and guidelines.
- Sell investments when necessary for policy compliance purposes or for cash flow requirements. Record and account for all non-custodied investments and income in PeopleSoft.

Donations
- Liaise with donors' brokers, and Office of Advancement staff to receive donations of securities and mutual funds into University's custodial or broker account in a timely manner.
- Sell security and mutual fund donations in a timely manner.
- Prepare all general ledger journal entries relating to same.

Additional Duties
- Investigate and resolve any errors, questions, issues, and requests between University staff and the University's commercial and custodial banks.
- Investigate and resolve any investment related items that do not reconcile to the bank statement.
- Collect and upload FX data to PeopleSoft for all requested currencies weekly. Evaluate and transact FX forward contracts as required.
- Calculate and account for Interest allocations on research projects
- Key large payments for HR throughout the month.
- Upload PreAuthorized Payment files 3 times per month and track returns, advising departments of same.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Post-secondary degree or diploma, augmented by extensive Canadian bank experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian banking and investment industries.
- Demonstrated knowledge of accounting.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
