Position Summary:
Primary Responsibilities:

- Manage the technical and administrative support needs of the PET/SPECT Unit of the Brain Imaging Centre: 2 distinct PET scanners, one SPECT scanner, and multiple ancillary specialized equipment - all entirely dedicated to research use.
- Operate two human PET scanners (HRRT and Ecat) and one SPECT camera, along with associated computer systems (data acquisition and image reconstruction)
- Perform and oversees advanced research procedures for the management of research participant in PET/SPECT studies, including blood draws, intravenous injections of radiophamaceuticals, etc.
- Manage and curate the Unit’s database, in collaboration with the Centre’s IT team and other Units;
- Supervises oversee and train the Unit’s staff for such operations
- Set priorities for the effective management of the Unit, provides key operation of the multi-scanner core unit.
- Establish and ensure that quality standards, goals and objectives are met: is responsible for the calibration of scanners and key instruments in the Unit, quality control of data delivered to researchers.
- Using highly specialized skills and knowledge, ensures that the PET/SPECT scanning equipment is operating at all times.
- Establish upgrade options and oversees maintenance programs for the scanning equipment; continuously reviews programs to ensure successful operation.
- Ensure that economical solutions are developed when faced with challenges in terms of processes or equipment (e.g., makes recommendations on proposed upgrades).
- Analyze, implement and perform troubleshooting options, if necessary, in coordination with the BIC’s Biomedical Engineer.
- Responsible for assisting a large user base of researchers (about 30 different PIs) in the collection of high-quality PET/SPECT data. The context is that of research studies funded by multimillion grants.
- Participate actively in the implementation and execution of research protocols at the Unit.
- Analyze and prioritize requests on the projects and services to be performed.
- Resolve complex issues with regards to scheduling and use of the equipment, in coordination with the BIC’s scheduling office and the Cyclotron Unit.
- Prioritize responses to users of the platform at multiple levels: for the implementation of research protocols, the understanding of study-specific scanning procedures and data-management requirements, etc.
- Supervise and trains technical staff in the observance of the Unit’s and the BIC’s standard operating procedures.
- Provide information and explanations to staff, with regards to policies and procedures;
- Analyze and evaluate personnel needs;
- Assist with staffing of the Unit; Oversee that staff obtains and maintains adequate professional certification (OTIMROQ) and levels of training;
- Provide and ensures highly specialized training of staff;
- Supervise technical staff and monitors progress of assignments and schedules;
- Establish and foster effective working relationships by identifying needs and providing support in the delivery of services
- Assess and resolve administrative problems. When appropriate, inform supervisor and formulate recommendations;
- Evaluate staff performance and provides discipline and feedback.
- Oversee documentation for the Unit (e.g., safety and operating manuals, protocols, registers), including but not limited to:

- Wipe tests for package reception and shipping
- Contamination tests for commissioned practice rooms outside the facility
- Disposal of decayed radioactive used medical material
- Distribution, assignment, collection and shipment of dosimeters for all Unit staff
- Define the data release and archiving Unit’s procedures and possibly, validate and execute those specific to certain studies.
- Oversee complex safety issues for the Unit (staff deal with highly radioactive material).
- Works with consultants on development of standards and safety protocols.
- Act as contact, and consultant, with equipment manufacturer.
- Using high-level expertise and advice, replies to manufacturers requests for recommendations on use and possible improvements to equipment.
- Coordinate, implement and oversee the administrative processes of the Unit, in accordance with research and operational policies and procedures.
- Participate in the implementation of policies and procedures, which support the strategic direction of the Unit.
- Presents developments at user meetings. Attends scientific meetings and conferences; presents the results of his work and provides expertise.
- Attend and actively participate with the Radiation-Safety and PET/Cyclotron Unit monthly meetings.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Must have a valid license by being a member of the OTIMROEMPQ.
- Good proficiency using Microsoft office tools such as excel.
- Knowledge in nuclear medicine neuroimaging and PET.
- Good experience with radiotracer do
