Heartache2Hope (H2H) is an innovative organization offering a variety of supportive services to provide a continuum of care after suicide loss. Our goal is to help individuals heal from traumatic loss while building resilience and recreating a fulfilling life. Our services include both Individual and Group Supports with Professional Counsellors and Peer Supporters. We are a small organization that has been supporting suicide loss grievers in Halton, Hamilton, Peel, and surrounding regions since 2014, with consistent yearly hypergrowth. Since offering virtual services, we now have clients across Ontario.

We are seeking a Director of Development to lead fundraising and stewardship, helping to ensure our organization can continue to grow and financially sustain that growth for the long-term. A keen relationship builder and engaging leader, The Heartache2Hope Director of Development will be an integral part of the team.

**Job Purpose**

Reporting to the CAO and working collaboratively with the CAO, Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Fundraising Committee, the Director of Development is responsible for identifying, cultivating, securing, and stewarding a portfolio of foundations, corporation and community-based donors, service organizations, and individual donors.

This critical fundraising position will design and implement strategies to create sustainable funding for Heartache2Hope in partnership with the Executive Director and Fundraising Committee. The strategic lead for annual fundraising and donor experience, the Director of Development will develop and deliver a revitalized and robust annual fundraising program and provide inspired support to the H2H team, Board Members and volunteers engaged in annual fundraising with the goal of creating sustainable funding for Heartache2Hope.

The Director of Development works within the guidelines, policies, mission and budget of our organization and will be accountable and responsible for specific projects as assigned.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Revitalization and implementation of an annual fund development plan, expanding sources of funding
- Achieve annual fundraising targets, as agreed with the ED and Chair of Engagement Committee
- Develop targeted solicitation strategies, customized proposals, sponsorship packages, briefing documents, grant submissions, and presentations to secure major gifts and sponsorships.
- Support the tracking of grant reporting metrics and prepare grant outcome reports and follow-up documentation
- Lead proactive research and participate in ongoing prospect identification, taking responsibility to acquire new corporate, foundation, and community organization donors and upgrade/engage existing donors
- Work collaboratively to develop mission-driven fundraising events, initiatives, and their supporting materials and communications to donors to inspire participation and support
- Lead on selection, implementation and maintenance of donor management software and donor database
- Develop and manage a donor relations program to deliver a gold standard acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship experience that bolsters affinity and loyalty
- Implement grant software and lead research into grant proposal selection. Prepare grants and grant reporting documentation.
- Prepare ROI measurement analysis and activation reports for sponsors and donors
- Develop and manage fundraising budget in collaboration with the ED and CAO
- Ensure accurate and complete tracking of all sources of revenue
- Provide Development leadership to the H2H leadership team, board members, and fundraising committee

**Qualifications, Experiences & Skills**:

- Degree from a relevant university or college program; CFRE designation is an asset
- Demonstrated experience and proven fundraising success with all aspects of annual fundraising and donor relations
- Knowledge and experience of fundraising best practices and fundraising / grant software
- Strong leadership, relationship building, and solicitation skills - must be comfortable ‘making the ask’
- Must have excellent prospecting skills and proven ability to uncover good leads
- Must bring creative and actionable ideas
- Strong interpersonal skills in particular exceptional ability to relate with a diverse group of stakeholders (including but not limited to public and private funding agencies and foundations, corporate sponsors and donors, granting bodies, government agencies, and individual donors) to develop and cultivate partnerships and represent the organization in a variety of settings
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills; grant writing experience an asset
- Proven leadership and professionalism, superior organizational and time-management skills, thorough and detail oriented, able to work independently
