The Civic Institute of Professional Personnel (CIPP) is looking for a full-time **Labour Relations Officer.**

**Who are we?**

CIPP has been the union for professionals, working at the City of Ottawa and Ottawa Community Housing, for over 65 years. CIPP represents the people who help to make Ottawa a great city.

Our members include public health nurses, engineers, business analysts, project managers, paramedics, and many other professionals working to deliver quality public services in our community.

We are looking for a skilled labour relations professional to join our small, highly collaborative team. You will deliver excellent representation services and be a strong advocate for our members’ interests and CIPP’s values.

You will help members understand their rights, and represent them through grievance proceedings, mediation, arbitration and in consultations.

You will build productive relationships with stakeholders and use your creativity along with your negotiation and problem-solving skills to resolve workplace issues. You will also contribute to collective bargaining, member engagement and mobilization.

**What will you do?**
- Provide expert labour relations advice and representation to members.
- Represent members through the grievance process and negotiate settlements or agreements.
- Work with legal counsel to represent CIPP at mediation, arbitration, and in other forums.
- Act as the Institute’s representative on workplace-wide or department wide union-management processes as required.
- Contribute to developing the collective bargaining mandate, strategy and associated research.
- Maintain currency with changes to labour laws, legislation, and regulations as well as case law and arbitration decisions, and any other information that may affect union members.
- Contribute to plans for member engagement and mobilization, research on various technical or policy issues, and advancing occupational health and safety.

**What are the requirements?**
- University degree in law, labour relations or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Advanced knowledge of collective agreement interpretation and labour relations jurisprudence, principles, and practices.
- Good knowledge of dispute resolution approaches and union-management relationships.
- Thorough knowledge of the laws governing employer-employee relations in the province of Ontario including employment standards, human rights, and occupational health and safety legislation.
- Demonstrated ability representing members in grievance hearings, workplace investigations and consultation meetings.
- Experience negotiating agreements and settlements.
- Ability to provide counsel on employment rights and conduct interviews, meetings, and information sessions.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite.
- Excellent communication skills including written and oral proficiency in English.
- Proficiency in French is highly desirable.
- Superior ability to build strong and effective professional relationships.
- Excellent judgement and discretion.

**Working Conditions**
- Permanent/full time position (35 hours/week).
- Salary range is $100,000 to $122,000 with a generous benefits package.
- Hybrid work with attendance at the office and other locations throughout the City as required.
- Additional hours during evenings or weekends may be required on occasion.
- Driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required.
