**Position Overview**

The **Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning** is currently seeking a Full-time Regular **Experiential Learning Specialist**.

Reporting to the Experiential Learning Manager, with accountabilities to the Academic Lead of the College for Discovery, Creativity and Innovation (CDCI), the full-time Experiential Learning (EL) Specialist within the Office of Experiential Learning, provides expertise as a specialist in programming and administration of experiential learning initiatives, with a strong focus on undergraduate research.

The Taylor Institute (TI) for Teaching and Learning is dedicated to strengthening teaching and learning cultures, communities and practices. The Institute supports the teaching development of instructors, promotes high-impact student experiences such as experiential learning, ensures the meaningful integration of learning technologies, and fosters research to understand better and improve student learning. Located within the Taylor Institute, the Office of Experiential Learning (OEL) team facilitates initiatives aligned with UCalgary's Experiential Learning Plan (2020-25). The OEL supports academic and non-academic units to expand and enhance opportunities for students to learn by doing.

The EL Specialist supports a variety of EL programs and initiatives in addition to managing the day-to-day program administration of UCalgary's Program for Undergraduate Research Experience (PURE). The work is highly interactive, involves constantly shifting priorities and requires a high degree of professionalism, confidentiality, maturity and diplomacy while communicating with a broad range of campus stakeholders, including senior leadership. It is a highly collaborative role, requiring the incumbent to have excellent skills in communicating with various stakeholders, supporting efforts in program development and assessment, and exercising sound judgement in day
- to-day decisions related to procedures and practices in experiential learning.

The Specialist will work 35 hours per week with regular office hours. This position is based in Calgary at the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning. This position may occasionally require irregular work hours during peak periods and events.

This role requires frequent collaboration with staff and faculty in other units across campus. The Specialist manages day-to-day relationships and the day-to-day administration of a variety of undergraduate research and experiential learning programs and initiatives. Areas of focus include the Program for Undergraduate Research (PURE), Ready for Research (R4R), program development and support for undergraduate research, project and data management for experiential learning initiatives, and other experiential learning projects.

The incumbent will be responsible for managing, organizing and tracking cross-campus projects, programs and initiatives in experiential learning and undergraduate research in collaboration with a variety of staff in the OEL and across campus to support the priorities outlined in the EL Plan.

**Position Description**

**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
Project Management and Collaboration
- Responsible for the day-to-day administration of various Experiential Learning initiatives, including the Program for Undergraduate Research Experience (PURE), an annual campus-wide award program in the range of $750,000 and Ready for Research, a co-curricular program for undergraduate students
- Collaborates with partners across various units, including Cumming School of Medicine, Information Technologies, and Research Services
- Advises students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders on policies, procedures, requirements and deadlines to ensure the smooth delivery of EL and undergraduate research programs including PURE.
- Participates as an active member and supports coordination of committees, as required, to provide observations, recommendations, and feedback that influence the delivery strategies, policies, procedures, and initiatives related to EL.
- Acts as the main day-to-day contact to advise faculty coordinators across campus on enquiries related to undergraduate research awards, the award platform, the awards program, and other logístical or procedural details.
- Provides day-to-day administration of the undergraduate research awards platform including training of other users, troubleshooting and creating system documentation and escalating issues and opportunities
- Manages multiple inboxes responding to student, faculty and staff enquiries promptly and providing a high level of customer service
