As a Student Development Inspector with the Development Permit and Inspection team you will proactively conduct development permit inspections of new construction to ensure compliance with the Edmonton Zoning Bylaw and Municipal Government Act within the City of Edmonton.

**As a student, you will**:

- Conduct site inspections and undertake file reviews to inspect, document, and verify development conforms with the approved development permit
- Support site inspection selections and map out efficient inspection routes
- Inspect residential, commercial, and industrial developments for adherence to their associated Development Permit and Zoning Bylaw regulations; this includes driving throughout the City, attendance at active construction sites, taking photos, and obtaining measurements of buildings
- Organize inspection findings and upload reports into program software
- Provide instruction to developers on how to bring their properties into compliance with the Zoning Bylaw
- Refer developers to the appropriate departments for additional information
- Collect, compile and conduct analysis of inspections data, and input data into enterprise software and Google Sheets
- Prepare inspection findings, and generate inspection reports and communications to be sent to citizens
- Assist with the development and implementation of training programs to support bylaw and policy changes or enhance customer service
- Perform other duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Current enrollment at a post-secondary institution, in an urban planning or architectural co-op or work experience degree program
- Experience with delivering excellent customer service
- Experience with referencing or using land use planning applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, and planning policy documents

**Assets**
- Experience working on residential or commercial construction sites
- Experience with reading and interpreting plans/maps
- Previous experience using survey equipment
- Experience working with the City of Edmonton’s Zoning Bylaw
- Experience with statistical techniques, quantitative analysis and research methodology

**Conditions of Employment**:

- This position will be a combination of working from the office and on-site working conditions
- This position will work alone outdoors in residential and commercial inspection settings in all weather conditions
- Perform the following physical tasks safely while on construction sites: wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - including CSA approved steel-toed boots, carrying surveying equipment, moving safely over uneven terrain, and lifting/crouching where required
- Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position, there may be a cost associated with this requirement
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance

**Additional Details**:
**Hours of Work**: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday

**Salary Range**:$21.545 - $25.135 (Hourly)
