About Home Base Housing

Home Base Housing is in the business of ending homelessness. We do this by caring and providing individual wrap-around services delivered by case managers to the vulnerably housed and homeless. With over 22 properties under our management, we provide emergency, transitional and supportive housing, for youth, families, and single adults, the One Roof Youth hub, a housing help centre, street outreach, housing loss prevention services, and advocate for affordable housing for all.

About the job

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Assist with the development of an internal system for profiling clients and outcomes.
- Provides back up case management services when Case Managers are absent.
- In conjunction with Program Manager works on funding proposals which would benefit the program and community.

Application/ Intake Assessment related
- Identifies other service providers and natural supports (e.g. family) and obtains consents to share information
- Advocates for and refers individuals who are ineligible for the program or service helping them gain access to other programs and services at Home Base Housing and/or resources in the community.

Client Related
- Recommends to the Program Manager when warnings for behaviour or eviction of clients is being considered.
- Liaise with the Adult Supportive Housing Coordinator for transfers between the Youth and Adult supportive housing programs.

Finance and Property related
- Oversees reporting of maintenance issues submitted on Rental Gauge as required and monitors follow-up. Reports any major or urgent concerns related to safety and security to the Program Manager.
- Maintains record of pest control schedule and liaises with Maintenance Supervisor for more challenging properties/units requiring assistance with unit prep and follow up.

**Skills, Knowledge, and Education Required**
- knowledge of homelessness and affordable housing issues within the community and the strategies to end chronic homelessness which are identified the 10-year Housing and Homelessness Plan (Dec 2013);

interactions with the client;
- knowledge of the resources in the community for individuals, youth and families who

are homeless, at risk of homelessness, living in poverty, or living with mental health or

addiction issues and skilled at brokering services for clients appropriate to the

responsibilities of the job;
- ability to integrate harm reduction approaches as appropriate in interactions with the client;
- knowledge of and adherence to privacy legislation and policies within the organization related to confidentiality of client information;
- strong problem solving, conflict resolution and mediation skills within a solution-focused framework;
- knowledge of Residential Tenancy Act and role of Landlord Tenant Board in landlord-tenant disputes;
- excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- the ability to negotiate and mediate difficult situations and produce positive results
- ability to function as a participating member of the team and understand the work of

the team as part of a broader system to end chronic homelessness
- background in systems work, data analysis and supporting the work of others to achieve

system goals;
- supports a learning culture that stays up-to-date with the main currents of thought and

practice in the delivery of housing first programs develops the staffing schedule in

consultation with the team to ensure maximum efficiency while meeting program

objectives;
- promotes the development of the team and deals with team issues promptly.

**Qualifications**
- University Degree or Community College Diploma in a related discipline
- Minimum five-years work experience in human services,
- Demonstrated ability in both oral and written communication
- Strong negotiation and mediation skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of issues facing homelessness
- Demonstrated adequate ability to organise
- Valid Driver’s License and access to a car
