The Calgary and area Primary Care Networks (Calgary Zone) is seeking casual medical writers to support the development and updating of clinical pathways. These are casual positions with an expectation of approximately 20 hours/month over six months.
The medical writer will be responsible for collaborating with family physicians, specialists, and other team members as appropriate to update and finalize clinical and access pathways that support primary care. The medical writer will attend virtual and in-person committee and working group meetings to support the research and development of new pathways. The medical writer will be capable of meeting tight deadlines and articulating clinical inputs from various sources into clear written products. This remote-based position is part of the Calgary Zone Business Unit and reports to the Operations Director for the Business Unit. The Calgary Zone Business Unit provides supports to seven Calgary PCNs and their will collectively deliver primary health care services to the citizens of Calgary and area.

**Responsibilities**:
Key aspects of the position may include, but are not limited to:

- Serve as medical writing lead on clinical and access pathways
- Work with the pathway project manager, specialists, primary care physicians, and other team members as appropriate to update and finalize pathways
- Understands, assimilates, and interprets sources of information with appropriate guidance/direction from pathway committees and/or clinical leads
- Conduct bespoke research on healthcare interventions and therapeutic areas related to identified clinical conditions
- Analyse clinical studies related to a proposed or existing pathway
- Understands, assimilates, and interprets sources of information with appropriate guidance/direction from pathway development committees
- Adhere to timelines and writing standards agreed upon by the pathways working group
- Interpret sources of information from committee members and research into written products, using appropriate direction from pathway committees / pathways working group
- Travel, as needed, to Calgary Zone communities to attend meetings, gather information and provide project management leadership

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks utilizing excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access)
- Outcome-driven and ability to utilize well-developed problem solving
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to adapt to the audience and desired results
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
- Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet and professional manner

**Qualifications**:

- Education/Certification:

- Master’s degree in a health science preferred
- A combination of education and experience may be considered
- Experience:

- Minimum of five years clinical experience, or Master’s degree in a scientific discipline plus a minimum of two years experience
- Three years of relevant clinical and/or medical industry experience, with at least three years of specific medical writing experience, preferably in primary care or pharmaceutical settings.
