Stony Plain, Canada Meridian Housing Foundation Full time

**Position Summary**:To develop, implement, and maintain the Meridian Housing Foundation Health and Safety program and to provide ongoing Health and Safety support to all employees, contractors, visitors, and residents

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

Specific duties and responsibilities of this position shall include but not be limited to the following:

- Promotes the health, safety, and well-being of all within the organization while establishing a positive workplace culture
- Assesses and evaluates work procedures and environments to identify potential hazards and eliminate them or ensure that adequate controls are in place
- Advise managers, supervisors, and employees on safe work practices and safe operating procedures
- Recommends appropriate procedures and equipment for safety and compliance with relevant laws and regulations
- Develops health and safety policies, procedures, goals and programs
- Coordinate and/or instruct safety training courses
- Adheres to OH&S legislation and regulations
- Work with department teams on creation and/or review of hazard assessments
- Ensures contractors are in compliance with WCB
- Provides monthly reports for employee safety talks and other meetings
- Act as advisor on the Health and Safety Committee
- Participates in incident investigations and WCB reporting
- Regularly reviews and communicates emergency planning
- Coordinates fire drills and evacuation
- Inspects machines/equipment to identify potential hazards, recommend risk reduction measures, and supervises the installation of safety features or safer procedures
- Inspects premises regularly to ensure safety and security
- Monthly inspections of safety supplies - eye wash, first aid, burn and spill kits
- Creates healthy working relationships with fire departments in municipalities
- Investigates the causes of incidents and develop procedures, methods, or devices to prevent similar occurrences in the future
- Manages and maintains MSDS and SDS, Chemical database, binders and inventory; ensures expired or non-used products are tagged and removed from service
- Knowledgeable in performance of audits
- Maintains COR certification - certifying partner CCSA
- Ensures compliance of Accommodation and Licensing standards

**SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Keeps self and others healthy and safe according to the AB Occupational Health & Safety Act, Regulation and Code
- Supports the Workplace Health and Safety Management System
- Ensures compliance to health and safety by being compliant to policies, goals, standards, practices, procedures, rules, and legislation

**ABILITIES, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE**
- Strong organization skills
- Strong coordination and planning skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to establish and maintain professional, effective and positive working relations
- Strong leadership communication skills: able to explain instructions clearly and effectively, to lead meetings and conduct training
- Skilled at problem solving
- Understanding of safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals
- Ability to complete reports, forms and correspondences
- Demonstrated knowledge of OH&S legislation
- Ability to constantly improve and learn
- Ability to work independently or on a team
- Desire to work with seniors

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
- Occupational Health and Safety Certificate/Diploma, **and/or**:

- Working knowledge of in Health and Safety legislation and best practices, **and**:

- Five years hands on experience in the Health and Safety industry
- Valid Driver’s license and a Driver’s Abstract in good standing
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
