Opportunity

The Indigenous Victim Service (IVS) Worker works with all youth who are victims of crime and require support to navigate the justice system. A large focus of this position is to support Indigenous youth in the Vancouver community. The IVS worker provides one-to-one and group support for youth who are experiencing or have experienced violence in the community. They work with youth and families to provide holistic, culturally grounded support and resources. This position requires experience and knowledge of working within the justice system as well as other systems. This unique role of youth victim services worker provides direct interventions as well as community-based advocacy and cultural connections.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide one-to-one support for accompaniment with youth to various ICM, court, health meetings and appointments.
- Develop strong relationships with youth and provide brief counselling support.
- Engage in collaborative case planning with youth support team.
- Develop and sustain community connections with relevant community members and service providers, including elders.
- Track spending and mileage, and report participant stats
- Provide intake and collaborative wellness plans with youth experiencing trauma.
- Engage in active outreach and build relationships with community partners.
- Participate in resource room shifts and programming.
- Maintain youth files, case notes and related documentation.
- Provide regular opportunities for youth cultural connection.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care or related field plus two years of related experience. A combination of experience and education may be considered.
- Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector.
- Standard first-aid certificate and CPR
- Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driving record
- Proof of being fully Vaccinated for Covid 19

- Knowledge of restorative justice and healing
- Depression/suicide/mental health assessment training
- Trauma-informed practice training
- Experience working in the anti-violence sector.
