**The Opportunity**

Reporting to the Vice President, Legal Strategy, this position is responsible for all programs and services designed for Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) persons and communities in British Columbia.

The Manager, Indigenous Services, is responsible for developing and maintaining meaningful relationships and engagement between Indigenous peoples and LABC; provides strategic direction and expertise on Indigenous issues; develops and implements innovative legal aid services for Indigenous peoples; and integrates Indigenous perspectives throughout the LABC team and all of its work.

**Key accountabilities include, but aren't limited to**:

- Responsible for end-to end management of Indigenous Programs and Services, including making recommendations, determining scope, resources, business cases, project charters, evaluation and reporting.
- Builds strong and meaningful relationships and fosters ongoing engagement between Indigenous communities and LABC.
- Maintains current awareness of developments in Indigenous affairs and Indigenous justice.
- Manages department staff and staffing requirements including interviewing, hiring, measuring performance, and conducting regular performance reviews, including Indigenous Community Legal Workers.
- Acts as a Mentor/Coach for Indigenous staff and contractors at LABC
- Evaluates, plans and establishes staff goals and objectives, and ensures the adequate training and career development of staff.
- Develops and implements an integral planning process, providing input and expertise on Indigenous issues in the strategic planning process and LABC operational processes. Provides yearly reports of performance against the strategic plan.
- Proactively identifies new program and service deliverables, needs and activities; modifies deliverables and makes recommendations to meet changing demands.
- Assists in the development, monitoring and revision of budgets for the department.

Practicing lawyer called to the Bar in British Columbia (without restrictions on area of practice), family and child protection legal experience is an asset. Minimum of six (6) years related experience working within the Indigenous community, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in the non-profit or public sector preferred. Excellent knowledge of Indigenous social justice issues, traditional Indigenous justice concepts, alternative measures, mediation and diversion practices, and Canada’s justice and legal system. Strong understanding of Indigenous issues and cultures, and the ability to relate to Indigenous people, Indigenous community groups and agencies with sensitivity to cultural differences.

Ability to work collaboratively with staff and stakeholders, and cross-government partners to advance common goals. Demonstrated political acuity, judgement skills and can anticipate and manage contentious issues and identify mitigating strategies. Extensive project management skills and knowledge of project management method
