CHAR Technologies is currently looking for Lab Technician, reporting to the VP, Research and Development, to play an important role to engage and lead activities in our lab, located in Thorold, Ontario, related to large scale, complex high temperature pyrolysis, renewable natural gas, and hydrogen plants.
The position is an integral part of the CharTech Solutions team who works closely with all key stakeholders to ensure all lab activities are done at the highest level, with thorough documentation and communication of results.
**Responsibilities**:
- Set up and conduct chemical experiments, tests and analyses.
- Compile records for analytical studies.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus per SOP’s.
- Assist in developing and conducting sampling and analysis.
- Assist in development of standards, health and safety measures.
- Compile records and interpret experimental or analytical results.
- Point of contact for all external service providers, including equipment maintenance, utilities, and waste management.
- Interact with and collaborate with all levels of staff and employees to successfully perform responsibilities and maintain an organized, safe and efficient work environment.
- Understand and follow instructions and specifications from engineers, scientists, chemists, and other researchers.
- Keeping the laboratory neat and clean and sterilizing all work surfaces and equipment.
- Regularly inspecting materials and equipment and ordering more as required.
- Interpreting test results and compiling technical reports.
- Keeping up-to-date with field advancements and sharing new knowledge with colleagues.
- Other tasks as assigned.
**Qualifications**:
- A Bachelor, or a Masters’ degree in relevant scientific or technical field, or equivalent educational background.
- 2-3 years laboratory experience with preference to similar industry, gas processing and equipment. CHAR will provide training, standard operating procedures, and equipment manuals.
- Experience with mass spectrometer is preferred but not required.
- Strong background working with precision lab equipment and familiarity in analysis equipment and calibration.
- Proficiency in utilizing PC software packages typically associated with engineering.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
**Salary**: $55.00-$80.00 per year
