LAB TECHNICIAN

*Please note: pay will be commensurate with experience*

**Job Location**: Thorold, Ontario, Canada

**Working Hours**: Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 5:30

**General Duties**
- Carry out standard operating procedures (SOP) involving laboratory techniques, calculations, operation of laboratory equipment and record keeping techniques related to R&D
- Plan, organize and execute experiments under the guidance of the Senior Scientists, with sensitivity to competing timelines and prioritizing deliverables
- Record keeping including but not limited to documenting results and minutes from meetings
- Maintaining excellent digit records and documentation in a shared resource environment
- Assisting in laboratory organization and ordering of supplies
- Assisting in the maintenance and calibration of equipment in the lab and maintaining associated records
- Assisting in the maintenance of a clean and safe laboratory environment
- Providing technical support to customers
- Other duties and responsibilities as required

**Qualifications**
- Degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Genetics or related science field
- Experience with DNA and RNA purification, PCR techniques
- Experience with NGS sequencing is an asset
- General experience working in a life sciences lab
- Discretion, good judgment, organizational or management ability, initiative, and the ability to work independently
- Adaptability and versatility
- Must be motivated, willing to learn new skills
- Strong organizational, quantitative and problem solving skills
- Attention to detail
- Able to approach problems both logically and creatively
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to perform multiple assignments without immediate supervision
- Experience working on a multi-disciplinary team

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
