UBC Sauder School of Business is one of the world’s leading business faculties. The Hari B. Varshney Business Career Centre (BCC) is a personal, professional career development centre that serves 4,000+ undergraduate and 1,000+ graduate business students at UBC Sauder School of Business.
The Career Strategist is part of the BCC team and supports UBC Sauder students to become career-ready graduates. The Career Strategist is responsible for supporting student learning and promoting student engagement in personal, professional and career building experiences within and beyond the university. The Career Strategist leverages and incorporates direct industry experience and knowledge to student program development and advising, both in-person and virtually.
The Career Strategist delivers a high-quality level of service to a high-expectation population with discrete and multi-faceted needs, overseeing the full cycle of students’ career journey at UBC Sauder in partnership with the Centre’s Business Development team.
The Career Strategist achieves results in three key areas of responsibility, aligning with career development principles and employing advising practices to deliver, assess and evaluate programs and services to students:
1. Personal and professional development: Develops and delivers comprehensive, world-class customized career services and education and tailors it to the needs of the student population.
2. Access to business community: Expands students’ opportunities to engage with the business community including local, national and global employers, alumni and industry stakeholders.
3. Service Excellence: Through planning, collaboration, administration, assessment and evaluation continuously improves the quality of career services.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Associate Director, Specialty Masters Careers. Regularly plans and collaborates with colleagues from across the BCC as well as the Program Office(s). May supervise external consultants, support employees and students, and takes on leadership roles in cross-functional team projects within UBC Sauder.
Work Performed
1. Personal and professional development:
- Develops innovative and scalable career tools, resources, and activities as well as networking events to support students in their unique career journeys.- Supports students in their awareness and development of personal and professional competencies, including self-awareness, communication, decision making and learning, all related to their career goals.- Leverages industry knowledge and expertise, innovative theory, evidence-based practices within the fields of career development and student affairs to design, deliver and evaluate career programming and resources.- Provides in-person and online career support and advises on career exploration, researching the labour market, facilitating experiential learning and reflection, gaining work experience, developing resumes, job and mock interviews, netwo
