Job Description

The Career Programming Strategist is responsible for programming initiatives, including designing, coordinating, and delivering career development programs, both in the classroom and online. This role involves collaborating with partners and applying best practices in learning to boost student engagement and career readiness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate all BCC-led career development programs (in person and online).
  • Identify opportunities within career development programming for students to critically reflect on their learning and connect it with other learning in their student experience.
  • Develop BCC-wide programming tools and templates, including lesson plans, marking rubrics, and course evaluations.
  • Manage the BCC's Learning Management System (Canvas) and other related platforms.
  • Manage the development and quality assurance of the BCC's career content and resources.
  • Continuously evaluate and innovate the BCC's existing learning tools, resources, and platforms.
  • Develop new career materials, such as PDF resources, videos, or other interactive learning resources.
  • Provide career coaching and advising for students on a variety of career and professional development topics and work search.
  • Provide facilitation and classroom support to select career development classes for students.
  • Manage the operations of career development programming, including room bookings and faculty liaison.
  • Support the marking of student assignments related to career development programming.
Access to Business Community
  • Contribute to expanding students' opportunities to engage with employers, alumni, and community.
  • Develop resources and tools that enable students to access, connect, and network with the business community.
  • Manage relationships with the business community to facilitate student learning and development.
Service Excellence
  • Participate in the assessment and evaluation of career learning for students.
  • Train employees, student employees, and volunteers, including peer leaders and coaches.
  • Contribute to strategic planning processes and the setting of goals and priorities for the work.
  • Influence multiple stakeholders to create and set direction, persuade action, and achieve consensus toward collective goals.
  • Support efforts to engage students, faculty, alumni, employers, and other stakeholders in career programming initiatives.
  • Foster an inclusive and respectful learning environment where all students have the opportunity to thrive professionally, academically, and personally.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of three to four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one's own.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated competence in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs, workshops, or events for students and/or professionals.
  • Experience using web-based platforms and instructional technology to teach and engage students.
  • Experience working with management to executive-level leadership in one or more of the areas of career coaching, recruitment, training, and learning development.
  • Knowledge of analytics required (Learning Management System analytics, Google Analytics, or equivalent).
  • Experience of classroom facilitation or teaching to groups.
  • Knowledgeable about career trends in the changing world of work.
  • Experience in designing, developing, and evaluating career-related programs or workshops is an asset.
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience of Canvas or similar Learning Management Systems (LMS) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated expertise in leveraging innovative learning technology is an asset.
  • Computer skills required, including advanced Word and PowerPoint skills and intermediate Excel skills.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, public speaking, and organization skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and within multiple team environments.
  • Ability to think strategically and exercise diplomacy, tact, and discretion.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct respectful consultation and collaboration with stakeholders.
