Director, Communications

**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Capital Management, Financial Projects, and P3s, the Director Communications & Interest Holder Engagement (Director) oversees the strategic planning and operational requirements of specialized communication and engagement services, strategic planning, issues management, and interest holder analysis for Capital Management programs that affect all aspects of clinical and logistics operations within Island Health. Working with Island Health's Communications Corporate Partnerships, fellow Communications Directs within Island Health and in hospital foundations and regional districts, the Director ensures specialized engagement services are aligned with the overall strategic direction of Island Health to maximize the opportunities for foundations and regional hospital districts to partner with Island Health in capital management through awareness, education and direct engagement. The Director also ensures the corporate communications team has the support required to achieve the communications objectives of Island Health within the organization's strategic framework. The Director takes the lead on sensitive communication projects and develops an engagement strategy that impacts internal and external communications at the executive and operational levels, and ensures key partners are engaged and equipped to speak consistently and confidently to help drive the best possible outcomes in fundraising partnerships.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a master's degree in communications, journalism or health related field with seven (7) to ten (10) years' of progressively senior experience that includes working at a leadership level. Previous experience working in public sector administration would be an asset.
**Skills And Abilities**:
- Demonstrated leadership in areas of leading self, engaging others, achieving results, developing coalitions, and system transformation are required.
- Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills and holder of effective relationships.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of strategic communications and ability to respond to the needs of interest holders in sensitive situations supported by acute awareness of the impact of actions.
- Senior manager capabilities in the areas of leading self, engaging others, and achieving results, developing coalitions, and system transformation are required.
- Provides leadership, educational and communications support to facilitate the successful design, planning, implementation, integration, and evaluation of initiatives relating to renewal, redesign, restructuring, and reconfiguration of provincial healthcare support services.

- Demonstrated ability to lead ad support team members with respect, compassion, and humility.
