Instructional Assistant, Denturist Technology

Reporting to the Department Head, Dental and Animal Clinical Services department in the School of Health and Life Science, the position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of our lab/clinic spaces. The position will also deliver technical lessons in the lab environment independently, under the guidance of instructors, using existing rubrics and assessment tools provided by instructors, to evaluate students.

**Key Responsibilities**:
Lab/Clinic:

- Maintain and calibrate lab/clinic equipment
- Ensure lab/clinic safety
- Manufacture specialized items when required
- Ensure the work area is in a safe and clean condition
- Liaison with other sections or programs when required
- Maintain consumables and inventory of equipment
- Assist with maintaining Standard Operating Procedures and safety manuals when required

Instructional Support:

- Independently deliver in lab/clinic technical activities/lessons
- Evaluate students based on existing rubrics and assessment tools, provided by instructors, and provide feedback
- Independent supervision of students
- Demonstrate lab/clinic equipment, when required
- Support educational technologists in the preparation, setup and dismantling lab/clinic exercises when required
- Assist or perform lab/clinic demonstrations of equipment under the supervision of instructional support
- Assist instructional staff when required ensuring the safe and correct use of equipment
- Provide feedback to instructors regarding lab/clinic exercises

Student Support:

- Provide tutorial/remedial
- Assist students in the development and execution of technical projects in cooperation with other staff members
- Ensure students are working in a safe condition

**Skills & Abilities**:

- Strong oral and written communication
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Initiative and ability to work independently
- Knowledge of computers and use of Microsoft suite of programs
- Ability to lift 20-45lbs unassisted
- Ability to stand and walk for 7.25 hours
- Ability to physically perform standard dental and/or intraoral work
- Ability to work flexible hours and assignments
- A solid working knowledge of clinical settings, safety standards, and equipment operations and maintenance in the denturist field.

**Qualifications**:

- Denturist Technology diploma and current member of the College of Alberta Denturists or Dental Technologist diploma with experience in removables and a current member of the College of Dental Technologists of Alberta (CDTA)
- 5 years of related experience recommended
- Class 5 driver’s license, if required
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience

**Remuneration**: $58,722.56 - $78,322.40 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Instructional Assistant II).
- This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement._
