Cultural and Heritage Interpreter

**Key Responsibilities**:
- Deliver Educational programming for school/youth and public groups
- Coordinate school programs, including assembling program supplies, preparing schedules, and assisting volunteer interpreters
- Identify and liaise with Indigenous groups to consult and partner with
- Research and recommend replication artifacts and historic objects (including game reproductions) for interpretation and educational purposes
- Participate in seasonal training programs for volunteer and staff interpreters
- Assist in the care, maintenance and development of program materials and indoor exhibits
- Ensure care and maintenance of cultural and heritage exhibits including Plains tipi encampment, buffalo pound, pioneer sod house and artifacts
- Assist with special projects related to extending heritage products and services
- Revise year-round school programs
- Mentor volunteer interpreters
- Process program evaluations and statistics
- Participate as a member of the FWA Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Committee
- Other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**:
- Education in History, Education, or Tourism, or equivalent experience
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective and positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture is a requirement
- Excellent oral and written professional communication skills
- Proven experience working with children (a child abuse registry check and criminal records check are required)
- Strong planning, organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency using Google Suite in order to prepare documents, spreadsheets and routine correspondence
- Genuine enthusiasm for FortWhyte Alive and our mission, mandate and guiding principles
- Knowledge of Indigenous language is an asset
