**Full Time Six Month Term Position**
**SUMMARY**: The Link is looking for a **Cultural Liaison** to join the Kent Road Program. This role is a full-time six month term position. The **Cultural Liaison** is available to The Link’s participants and staff, and focuses on promoting, planning and supporting indigenous cultural practices within the program. The primary responsibility of this role is to integrate Indigenous cultural care and practices into the life of the program through regular involvement with The Link’s Kent Road Program and other programs. The incumbent will works collaboratively with Supervisors and staff to develop, monitor and revise Cultural Care Plans for participants.
As a liaison to the Indigenous Initiatives team, the Cultural Liaison establishes collaborative and trusting relationships with participants, youth and families throughout the Kent Road Lodge program. They act as a cultural support, providing insight, information, guidance and involvement of cultural practices and ceremonies. The Cultural Liaison functions within an open minded, strengths based, trauma informed, relational child and youth care approach
The Link: Youth and Family Supports Indigenous Initiatives practices a policy of open-mindedness and inclusion regarding culture and ceremony for children and youth and their care providers.
***PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The Cultural Liaison’s primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work closely and in consultation with the Indigenous Initiatives program.
- Works with residents to complete and/or revise Cultural Plans of Care during their stay with The Link and interacts with families in a manner designed to help them achieve their goals.
- Provide support for or organize and coordinate activities, learning opportunities and ceremonies guided by the Cultural Plans
- Participate in meetings as required and display an attitude that promotes positive teamwork and exhibits a high degree of positive role modelling for young people.
- Provides support to other programs if approved by Supervisor to foster connection and relationship building
- Guide delivery of culturally based healing opportunities for children, youths and families, in consultation with Indigenous Initiatives program.
- Provide detailed reports on activities, record keeping and report writing as required, including monthly summaries of activities and progress.
- Participate in the assignment of any other job-related tasks as requested by the Supervisor
- Provide mentoring and advise to children, youth and families

**Essential Requirements**
- Post-secondary education in Human Services or a combination of education, work experience and lived experience may be considered.
- At least two (2) years’ experience working in a group care setting
- A satisfactory combination of experience and education focusing on children and youth in care
- Demonstrated cultural knowledge competence and the ability to participate in agency training for development
- Demonstrated understanding and appreciation for issues and concerns of Indigenous peoples within a child welfare environment including but not limited to, children and youth living with addictions, intergenerational trauma, systemic racism, impacts of Residential schools and MMIWG
- The ability to communicate in an Indigenous language is considered an asset. Ability to respond to common enquiries or complaints from staff and participants; able to present information to their team and colleagues in an effective and approachable manner.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with caregivers in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Must be able to demonstrate strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Experience providing supportive counseling and/or delivering culturally based programs is preferred.
- Must have a demonstrated understanding of Indigenous culture and traditions.
- Ability to attend work regularly as scheduled and flexibility to attend regular evening programs or ceremonies and overnight travel on occasion
- First Aid and CPR C Certification, or willing to obtain
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (Completed through local RCMP) completed within the last three (3) months.
- Acceptable Child Abuse and Adult Abuse Registry Checks with acceptable Prior Contact Check; all completed within the last three (3) months.
**Preferred or willing to obtain within the first 3 (three) months**
- ASIST Certificate (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and/or any de-escalation training preferred;
