The Outdoor Experience Guide is a contract position responsible for delivering and facilitating recreational and educational programming. The Outdoor Experience Guide is primarily responsible for programming (canoeing, mountain biking, high ropes, initiatives, environmental programs, camping/out trips, etc) and program/site support; but will also have opportunities to act as a liaison to other types of groups (such as weddings, reunions, cottage rentals). This position will also guide guests on our Canopy Tour. The Outdoor Experience Guide will report directly to the Group Sales Coordinator. RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Facilitate programs for school, adult, family, and other special interest groups during weekdays and weekends
- Act as the liaison with teachers, group leaders, and other organizers
- Provide site support including the set-up of program areas, maintenance of program areas and program equipment as well as assisting other departments with general tasks
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Perform all tasks in accordance with company safety policies
- Perform all tasks in accordance with established safe work practices and standards, operating procedures
- Provide excellent customer service working with a variety of groups including both general public and other team members and with people of all of ages
- Demonstrate strong support to the shared values of Haliburton Forest: safe, collaborative, professional, productive, and proud.
- Provide safe and exciting experiences for our guests such as canoeing, hiking, and challenge course facilitation
- Facilitate outdoor education programs for youth groups and adult groups, including events such as weddings and family reunions
- Act as a liaison with teachers and group leaders
- Provide site support including set-up of program equipment and general site maintenance
- Lead Canopy Tours
- Assist with the maintenance of the canopy tour
- Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Post-secondary education in Tourism & Recreation, Outdoor Education, Fish and Wildlife, Forestry, or related field
- Previous experience teaching and facilitating group experiences
- High ropes/climbing/belaying experience
- Standard First Aid / CPR-C certification
- NLS or Bronze Cross
- ORCKA Paddling Levels
- Experience with canoeing tripping and overnight hiking trips
- Flexibility to work overtime as required
- Additional languages spoken and understood (asset)
- Valid G Driver's License (F-Class License an asset)
- Thorough knowledge of outdoor education practices and excellent customer service skills
- Experience in outdoor education program planning and delivery
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, good communication skills

Must be
- Self-driven
- Outgoing with a positive attitude
- Comfortable presenting in front of groups as well as one on one
- Safety conscious
- Comfortable and confident working at heights
- Experienced at safely managing groups of varying interests and dynamics

HOURS OF WORK
- 5 days per week
- 8-hour days, 40 hours per week
- Operating hours between 8am and 5pm daily
- This position may require you to work overnight, weekends, and hours outside of the typical 8am-5pm.

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & PERKS:

- Recreational access to the 100,000 acres of private land owned and managed by Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve

SUPERVISION:
This position does not directly or indirectly supervise staff.

FINANCIAL:
This position does not have financial management responsibilities.

TRAVEL:
This position may require limited travel within the region.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 3 months
