**ABOUT US**:
Haliburton Forest and Wild Life Reserve currently owns and operates four hardwood sawmills that colletively produce 30 million fbm lumber annually. We are one of the fastest-growing hardwood lumber companies in Canada.

Neuman Forest Products (NFP), Palmer Rapids,is one of four sawmills affiliated with Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve Ltd. NFP is focused on hardwood lumber; it has approximately 20 employees and production capacity of 10 million fbm.

Haliburton Forest Sawmill (Haliburton) is a mid-sized hardwood sawmill with approximately 30 employees who produce 7 million fbm per year and operates an active log yard program. The facility is primarily supplied by the surrounding private timberlands of Haliburton Forest.

This position reports directly to the Procurement Manager and indirectly to the Sawmill Manager. The Log Procurement Technician is a motivated individual with strong leadership skills and technical knowledge of hardwood timber. The Log Procurement Technician will be responsible for managing (but not limited to) the log flow in and out of the yard as well as coordinating the quality control and veneer programs. The Log Procurement Technician will also contribute to the log yard operations at the affiliated sawmills in South River and Huntsville and attend to bush operations as well as third-party log yards across Ontario on an as-needed basis. Additional responsibilities may be added as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following responsibilities are assigned to this position:

- Scaling of logs in log yards
- Procuring gatewood from a variety of suppliers
- Assisting with supervision of various logging contractors at NFP and affiliated companies
- Assisting with negotiating and organizing the sorting, selling, and purchasing of hardwood timber, as well as the logistics of moving timber
- Facilitating veneer procurement and sales
- Developing and implementing quality control systems for hardwood timber
- Assisting with duties related to calculating payments to contractors
- Performing all tasks in accordance with established Safe Work Practices and Standard Operating Procedures
- Preparing budgets, forecasts, reports, and project plans when requested
- Other duties as assigned

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
The following criteria are the minimum qualifications required for this position:

- Training in some or all of the following fields:

- Hardwood tree and log identification
- Hardwood tree evaluation and/or log scaling
- Forestry, arboriculture, or a related profession
- Experience in some or all of the following fields:

- Working in a leadership position
- Working with hardwood timber
- Working with independent contractors

- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Willing to work outdoors in inclement conditions
- Flexibility to work overtime as required
- Valid driver’s license

SUPERVISION:
Provide direction and supervision to yard staff and logging contractors if/when needed.

FINANCIAL:
This position has financial responsibilities related to negotiating rates for buying, selling, processing, and transporting hardwood timber, under the direction of Procurement Manager

**TRAVEL**:
This position requires travel within the region, including to South River, Haliburton, Huntsville and Ottawa Valley.

**HOURS OF WORK**:
This position requires a flexible 40-hour work week. Hours are 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
