**What can I expect to do in this role?**: Duties & Responsibilities:

- Assist in comprehensive inspections of drinking water systems and wastewater systems ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines.
- Assist in collecting samples and required data to interpret results.
- Assist with promoting enhanced compliance, and promoting planning for adverse water incidents or alleged incidents of pollution;
- Schedule follow-up inspections in accordance with Ministry policy of sources of non-compliance to ensure that corrective action has been taken
- Assist with preparing and submitting and distributing reports containing results, findings, and recommendations.
- Assist with priority field response to drinking water adverse test results and incidences of pollution or complaints.
- Collecting, receiving, inputting, manipulating, sorting and transmitting a variety of monitoring data using a wide variety of manual and electronic devices.
- Develop knowledge of all current Provincial Environmental legislation and regulations.

**How do I qualify?**:
**Mandatory**:

- You must have graduated or will complete the requirements to graduate with a degree, diploma or post-graduate certificate from a recognized or legally authorized post-secondary institution in the last five years (May 2019-August 2024).
- You must self-identify as an Indigenous person. The term Indigenous refers to individuals who identify as being descended from the original inhabitants (the first peoples) of what is now known as Canada. In this context, Indigenous people are First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit.
- You must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- You must be a resident of Ontario during the term of employment.

**Knowledge**:

- You have the ability to acquire knowledge of sample collection techniques in order to collect soil, water, and waste samples to monitor regulatory compliance.

**Skills**:

- You have good written communication skills to produce clear, concise, and grammatically correct documents.
- You have problem solving and analytical skills to identify cause and source of pollution
- You have evaluative skills in considering nature, extent, and seriousness of non-compliance and recommending a corrective action, based on the findings.
- You have the ability to acquire technical skills to sample and test a variety of media to identify issues and outcomes relating to the results and the data collected.
- You can deal with the public and work with diverse client groups in an effective and polite manner.
