**Salary**: $58,000 - $60,000
About the Organization:
The Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle is a regional social planning and development organization. The BANAC service region now covers Simcoe County, Muskoka, and the northern York Region. BANAC works in cooperation with communities in areas of concern where coordinated efforts are required to meet the needs which positively impact the region. BANAC will continue in this social planning capacity, offering consultation and support for our community development. BANAC offers many innovative programs and services including, Family Wellness, Childcare, Seniors Care and Long-Term Care, Cultural Services, and wholistic Health Services through the Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin Indigenous Interprofessional Primary Care Team.
About the Role:
The Mental Health and Addictions Intake Coordinator (MHA Coordinator) is an important part of the interprofessional primary care team. The MHA Coordinator receives new mental health and addictions referrals and conducts initial assessments of patients to determine needs and establish the plan of care. The MHA Coordinator will facilitate referral of patients to mental health practitioners and programs within the organization or external mental health partners if suitable. As an experienced mental health professional, the MHA Coordinator will be the first point of contact for clients interested in the residential addictions’ treatment program.
This clinically focused role will be able to conduct assessments, support case management to coordinate care, facilitate systems navigation, and work in an interdisciplinary setting. This role will support CWS clients and addictions clients and team members throughout the region and therefore the role may require some travel and/or remote work.
What You Bring:
- BSW Degree preferred or Social Service Worker diploma with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and asset.
- Minimum of 3 years direct experience providing support to clients with mental health and addictions needs.
- Previous experience working within Indigenous communities or organizations.
- Ability to provide Indigenous culturally safe, trauma-informed care and services.
- Ability to understand Indigenous cultural values, traditions, history.
- Ability to integrate Indigenous perspectives into services.
- Experience with navigation and completing assessments/triage of new clients
- Knowledge of mental health disorders and appropriate treatment including counselling theoretical orientations
- Knowledge of mental health community resources, regulations and policies is an asset
- Advanced interpersonal communication skills, including excellent written and oral communication and rapport building skills with clients.
- Ability to prioritize and balance multiple responsibilities in an environment that shifts between planned activities and responding to urgent client needs. Ability to respond flexibility to evolving clinical cases that may shift rapidly from low to high-risk scenarios.
- Ability to problem solve quickly and calmly under fast-paced work environment. Anticipates, identifies, and defines problems and seeks root causes to develop and implement practical and timely solutions.
- Ability to promote and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with team members, community partners, stakeholders, and others.
- Ability to handle highly confidential information in a discreet and professional manner.
- Demonstrated self-awareness in a team context.
- High degree of attention to detail, particularly in data management and record keeping tasks.
- Ability to respect individuals' experiences, foster healing.

- Work is typically performed in clinics, office, institutional and community settings.
- Regular travel to meetings, institutions, and communities will be required - vehicle an asset.
- Regular overtime work may be required from time to time, BANAC team members enjoy a flex schedule agreement.
- Periodic exposure to smoke may occur from the burning of sacred medicines: Tobacco, sweet grass, sage, or cedar.
