We are a dynamic community-based health centre promoting social justice and health equity in the Regent Park neighbourhood and east downtown area of Toronto. We operate out of several locations and provide a wide variety of services including: primary health care, chiropody, physiotherapy, nutrition services and supports, social work, community health, immigrant and refugee services, housing assistance, harm reduction and homeless programs, Pathways to Education for high school students, infant and child development programs, parenting education and family advocacy.

**Position Summary**:
The Post-Partum Doula Project is a partnership between the Early Years Program and the Pamoja Institute for Community Engagement and Action. The community project targets Black families with children from newborn to 3 years old. The Doula Project Lead will oversee outreach to the community to recruit and train Doulas to work with mothers of infants and toddlers. The Project Lead is responsible to plan, oversee, implement, and evaluate the project. The initiative will target and respond to the needs of Black families in the Regent Park and Moss Park communities.

**Responsibilities Include**:

- Project Development_
- Lead in the planning, implementation and evaluation of project activities utilizing trauma informed, anti-oppressive, community development, and engagement strategies
- Lead the community outreach to identify participants in the program
- Liaise with project advisory members to ensure involvement in decision-making and project activities; maintain meaningful ongoing connections with community organizations, groups, and residents regarding the work of the project
- Ensure the quality and accessibility of the Doula training curriculum
- Collaborate with Pamoja's postgraduate students
- Recruit and organize Black-identified parents and caregivers for community conversation
- Collaborate with internal and external resources to develop and implement wrap-around supports that are culturally informed, trauma-informed, and client-centered
- Facilitate the provision of continuous supportive care to families in the community, including emotional support and information during the postnatal period
- Assist in the development of and monitoring of project budgets and expenditures; ensure financial records are kept current and accurate by forwarding information to finance and human resources departments on time; review and submit expenditures
- Supervision of Doulas_
- Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and orientation of Doulas
- Ensure that the Doulas receive adequate training and support
- Ensure the information and organizational communications to be shared with Doulas
- Provide training in post-partum services to enable them to deliver services including: provision of evidence-based information on infant feeding, child and maternal care, referrals to services and professionals available in the community, nurturing strong bonding experiences between the parent and baby, supporting all family members equally in their role of “nurturing the family” and reinforcing the belief that the parents can and will be successful, providing practical support with meal preparation and household organization

**Qualifications and Skills required**:

- Minimum of 4 year work experience in a leadership capacity, managing community development and engagement projects with diverse Black and marginalized populations
- Post-secondary education in social work, health promotion, adult education, or community development and/or equivalent experience
- A minimum of 3 years of experience training and supervising staff, peer leaders and volunteers
- Demonstrated understanding and experience working from a trauma-informed, antiracist/anti-oppressive community development and engagement perspective; Knowledge of the diverse Black communities and Black trauma-informed best practices
- Ability to work effectively with people of black-identified families, and a variety of cultural, age, and economic backgrounds
- Understanding of issues affecting the diverse populations of Regent Park and the surrounding areas, including general issues affecting low-income communities; knowledge and/or understanding of the Regent Park revitalization process
- Excellent project and people management skills, particularly in working with community residents, partner organizations and stakeholders
- Strong curriculum development skills and knowledge of Post-partum Doula services
- Strong knowledge of pregnancy, birth, infant mental health, parenting strategies, child development screening tools, infant care and birth year cultural teachings
- Demonstrated experience in group work, including group facilitation, conflict resolution and crisis intervention
- Ability to work collaboratively within and across teams
- Strong time management skills, interpersonal skills, and written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent computer and technical skills
