PACE provides education and training for adult learners during the day, evening and online in a wide variety of part-time and full-time program areas, including Professional and Information Technology Programs, Educational Assistant Program, Executive and Corporate training, and the 55 Plus Program.

The Immigration Advisor works in close collaboration with PACE Program Managers, PACE’s Student Support Team, and PACE instructors to provide individualized immigration advising to PACE’s International students ensuring complex immigration laws and procedures are explained to support and ensure that students maintain their legal ability to study and work in Canada. This position provides presentations and workshops on immigration related topics pertinent to International students.

**Responsibilities**:

- Answers questions from University PACE staff, students, employees/interns regarding immigration requirements.
- Screen student documents to ensure that it meets IRCC requirements and recommend changes as required.
- Interpret IRCC terminology and procedures as required, explaining complex information and processes for applicants.
- Provide information on options and restrictions for individuals who have failed to maintain their status in Canada.
- Explain provisions for working on-campus positions available to students and interpret regulations to inform students as to the length of permit for which they are eligible and the restrictions of a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
- Explain restrictions of Co-op Work Permit, including medical exam requirements, restricted occupations, and National Occupation Classification levels of jobs.
- Provide information on the process for renewing passports inside Canada.
- Ensures all International students comply with Study Permit regulations.
- Receives and responds to internal and external requests for information related to immigration as it concerns International students while keeping within the University of Winnipeg and FIPPA guidelines.
- Monitors University policies, procedures, and regulations as required to provide immigration advice.
- Formulates policy recommendations to deal with current and potential issues related to students’ immigration status.
- Represents PACE International students’ interest within The University and acts as an advocate for issues concerning immigration and International students.
- Develops and maintains intake protocols, which meet ICCRC standards.
- Maintains detailed and accurate records of advising and referrals for each student.
- Develops, designs, and delivers informational seminars for International students on immigration topic areas.
- Disseminates significant changes in immigration laws and policies to students and staff through various methods.
- Member of the Managers’ Round Table (MRT). The MRT is a self-governance committee setting program and student services policies for PACE.
- Works in conjunction with members of the Student Support Team on interrelated areas
- Refers students to other internal or external resources when appropriate.

**Qualifications**:

- Undergraduate degree is required.
- Immigration Consultant Diploma recognized by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC).
- Must be a Member of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC) in good standing, as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC).
- Maintains Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) certification by completing on-going professional development courses and ensuring that practices and procedures of student intake and advising meet the ICCRC Code of Professional Ethics
- Minimum two years of practical experience in a service environment with experience advising students preferred.
- Experience interpreting regulations and procedures related to Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
- Experience researching policies and practices related to Immigration to Canada and other countries.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize a university student information system
- Experience developing and facilitating workshops related to immigration requirements
- Experience working with International students and English as an Additional Language
- Knowledge and understanding of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada regulations governing the ability of International Students to study and work in Canada
- Adheres to the highest standards of procedural fairness, professionalism and best practice immigration advising
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop supportive professional relationships with students, staff and members of the University community
- Ability to make independent and consistent judgments and decisions in managing risk in situations
- Must have the ability to handle stressful situations in a mature, professional, and confidential manner.
- Strong written and oral communication skill
