Family Support Early Years Resources Worker

The Family Support / Early Years Resource worker (FSEYR) supports families connected to the Annavale Headstart Nursery School. The FSEYR provides service navigation and coordination, parenting support and education, connects families and facilitates their access to early years services, family supports and other social services.
Annavale Headstart Nursery School serves children and families facing multiple challenges, addressing specific social determinants of health in a manner that is culturally sensitive, respectful and holistic in approach, grounded in attachment principles and a trauma-informed practices.
**Program-Related Activities**
- Provides family support services to Annavale preschool families.
- Completes an initial assessment and appropriate screening with every new registration to determine areas of enhanced support needs.
- Manages caseload (integrate/coordinate resources, crisis intervention, supportive counselling, information and referrals, supports parents, and provides advice on parenting).
- Consults with Annavale teaching staff to identify families needing greater support.
- Provides one-on-one family support focused on parenting and based on jointly identified family needs.
- Plans and delivers programmes that enhance child welfare and development, such as parent education in a group format and/or individually, family visits, drop-ins, and others as needs are identified.
- Facilitates transition from nursery school to JK/SK school environment through parent education focused on school readiness and communication with destination school to ensure a warm hand-over for children requiring extra support for transition to school.
- Supports Early Childhood Educators in the classroom at least one day per week to gain knowledge of each individual child’s development within program and tailor parenting support accordingly.
**Education**
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and/or Early Childhood Education (RECE) with extensive experience working with parents of children 0-6yo, and children with special needs/behavioral challenges ; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
**Professional Experience**
- Three to five year experience providing direct family support and community resources referral services to families relevant to vulnerable families with children, including for children with special needs.
- Three to five years full-time experience in running parent education, parenting support programs to families with young children, both group-based and one on one.
- Three to five years full-time experience providing supportive services to low income, multicultural families, and vulnerable families.
- Experience working with children with a variety of special needs.
- Experience working with preschool age children in a childcare environment.
- In-depth and broad knowledge of early childhood development, parenting support, with a focus of attachment principles and trauma-informed care.
- Experience and interest in working and establishing trusting relationships with marginalized and diverse clientele, such as low-income, high-needs, newcomer, and a variety of multicultural communities.
**Key Competencies**
- Knowledge of child development and behaviour management.
- Knowledge of evidence-based parenting programs in Ontario (ex: Nobody’s Perfect).
- Knowledge of local resources for families, children, including children with special needs, and their referral pathways.
- Knowledge of childcare operations and registration process through the centralized waiting list.
- Understanding of complex family dynamics and issues relevant to working with vulnerable, multi-risks parents/caregivers.
- Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary team environment.
**Linguistic Profile**
- English: fluency speaking/writing/reading.
- A second language (French and/or relevant to our client population) an asset.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
**Salary**: $26.27-$30.90 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week
