In accordance with the Administrative and Professional Officer Agreement, this full-time continuing position offers a comprehensive benefits package found on our Benefits Overview page and annual salary range of $66,265 to $110,441.

**Location**:This is an in-person role and work primarily takes place in North Campus Edmonton.

**Department/Faculty Summary**

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, including the School of Mining and Petroleum Engineering, aims to maintain its position among the top schools in North America. With a present complement of more than 65 faculty members, research in the Department is vigorous and covers all major areas of Civil, Environmental, Mining, and Petroleum Engineering. Our graduate program attracts outstanding students from the best schools worldwide and presently has an enrollment of over 500 students, including approximately 200 PhD students. The undergraduate programs in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering enroll close to 1000 students.

**Position Summary**

Reporting to the Academic Department Manager, the Manager, Technical Support Services will oversee the operations of relevant research and teaching laboratories. This position will serve as the bridge between the Department Leadership and the technical operations unit and will be responsible for day-to-day oversight of Department technical operations and staff.

The Manager, Technical Support Services will work with Department staff and resources to ensure the highest quality of teaching is being provided to our community. In all facets of this role, this position endeavors to integrate and advance the University’s commitments to equity, diversity, and inclusivity. This position understands, fulfills, and promotes the health, safety, and environment responsibilities identified in University policy.

**Duties**

Responsibilities include:

- Day-to-day management of Department technical services team
- Ensure that University Health and Safety standards are being met, including regular inspections
- Ensure efficient and equitable utilization of Department technical resources relating to teaching and research support
- Lead talent acquisition efforts as required and perform performance appraisals for staff
- Create meaningful relationships that promote a strong and healthy environment with focus on work/life balance
- Communicate strategic objectives to staff and create safe environments to explore and consider new methods or procedures
- Ensure instructional labs are being delivered in a meaningful and high-quality manner and work with Department stakeholders to redevelop/improve existing instructional materials to remain relevant with best practices.
- Research industry/teaching existing technologies and best practices to assist in laboratory redevelopment
- Manage all space dedicated to instructional laboratories and plan/design options for space allocations to meeting growing demand
- Develop and maintain an equipment inventory and maintenance/replacement schedule for teaching equipment and relevant research equipment.
- Identify new/emerging equipment that could be integrated into Department teaching and/or research
- Oversee access management
- Other duties as required

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Relevant technical diploma is required. MSc in Civil Engineering will be considered an asset. Equivalent combination of work experience and/or education will also be considered.
- At least 3 years of supervisory experience leading diverse teams
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills including strong ability to demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy
- Effective planning and time management skills
