**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Communicable Disease (CD) Manager and under the direction of the local Medical Health Officer (MHO), the CD Coordinator is responsible for leading a public health team that aims to implement epidemiological methods for the investigation of reportable communicable disease in the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA).

Providing leadership, supervision and coordination of day-to-day activities, ensures effective use of resources and professional development of the CD team. Takes a long-range view of operations and service delivery and follows through on issues that impact the overall quality of client care provided. Develops practice guidelines, procedures and standards at the program level and contributes to the monitoring and development of the operating plan. Provides leadership within the program for quality and risk management activities.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a recognized university Nursing program. Master's Degree in Nursing or Public Health preferred. Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Comprehensive knowledge of communicable diseases and related vaccines, including vaccine preventable diseases, STIs, HIV/AIDS and other blood-borne pathogens and TB. Experience in managing CD outbreaks.

Completion of BC Center for Disease Control Society (BCCDC) Courses an asset:
STI or equivalent

Immunization competency

HIV Pre and Post Test Counseling or equivalent

HIV Partner Notification or equivalent.

Completion of Health Canada Course, Skills Enhancement for Health Surveillance, or equivalent an asset. Minimum of five years recent nursing experience in Public Health Nursing, with two years experience in community CD nursing and supervision. Experience working with marginalized populations and with community resources and enhanced knowledge of alcohol and drugs issues, treatment and programs an asset. Knowledge of immunization products and services.

- Travel is a requirement of the position. Travel arrangements must meet the requirements of the Health Authority.
