QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience

  1. Board of Certification, Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors. Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada).
  2. Knowledge of modern methods, principles, techniques and practices of Environmental Public Health practices including:
    • Food protection
    • Pools and recreational water
    • Housing and general sanitation
    • Injury prevention
    • Communicable diseases
    • Drinking water
    • Land use, community planning and design
    • On-site and community sewerage treatment
    • Waste management
    • Air quality
    • Housing
  3. Knowledge of provincial legislation and local bylaws pertaining to Environmental Public Health.
  4. Valid BC Driver's Licence.
  5. Three (3) years of recent related experience.
  6. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

Skills And Abilities

  1. Demonstrated proficiency in the application of word-processing software programs including database management and graphics presentation.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  3. Ability to exercise sound judgement, decision-making and problem solving.
  4. Ability to work independently, organize workload and establish priorities.
  5. Demonstrated working knowledge of research methodology and analysis.
  6. Ability to secure facts through investigation, inspection and surveys.
  7. Ability to develop policy and recommend changes and revisions in programs, bylaws and regulations and write comprehensive reports.
  8. Ability to interpret Acts, Regulations, Bylaws, and other relevant policies and legislation.
  9. Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with management, colleagues, government agencies, clients and the public.
  10. Ability to speak in public, make presentations and address community groups.
  11. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  12. Ability to operate related equipment.
