Intake & Caseworker

The Transitional Housing Intake & Case worker will work with the Residents of Grace Mansion in all areas of personal development and growth, life skills, and social and spiritual activities to enable the resident to attain their full potential.
**HOURS**:
- **Temporary, Full-time (40 hours / week)**:
- **ASAP to May 23, 2023**:
- **One full year or until the return of the incumbent**:
- **Sunday to Thursday (08:00a.m. - 4:30p.m.)**
**WORK** ENVIRONMENT**:
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Intake & Case Worker will:
- Monitor resident occupancy levels and keep updated with move-in and move-out of residents.
- Perform intake of new clients by conducting reference checks for prospective clients
- Create new client files, interview prospective clients and callers, and collect required documentation for intake of clients to ensure program criteria are met
- Conduct orientation with clients and review the facility rules, clients’ rights and responsibilities, grievance / complaint.
- Provide hands-on training, coaching and support to clients, and help create opportunities for practicing skills that will enable clients to achieve their personal goals.
- Conduct an initial needs assessment of the resident within 10 days of arrival to the residence and schedule the initial room inspection.
- Establish and refer clients to appropriate medical and mental health services, education/job training programs, legal and advocacy services and other community resources as needed.
- Ensure the eventual completion of the goals and prepare an appropriate exit plan
- Work with assigned residents in completing Personal Development Plan (PDP) and following up with Resident(s) at regular intervals to assess, monitor, and adjust PDP as may be required.
- Participate with residents in scheduled instructional, spiritual, or social activities as required.
- Research and develop knowledge of issues that relate to residents. Development of resource information as relevant for residents.
- Maintain confidentiality and keep accurate files and statistical records. Specifics of administrative duties will vary with the different shifts.
- Supervise/monitor actions and interactions of Residents during assigned shift.
- Respond to all Resident inquiries within the framework of Centre Policies & Procedures.
- Answer telephone and refer calls to the appropriate person(s).
- Admit visitors to the Centre according to guidelines.
- Receive Residents' rent and place funds in the designated lockbox as per written protocol.
- Maintain contact with the Salvation Army, City and Provincial Government and community agencies to coordinate activities and available resources for the benefit of the Centre and the residents.
- Participate in scheduled staff and case management meetings as required and provide input and information on assigned client progress.
- Initial response to emergencies such as fire alarm, or other situations.
- Respond and assist residents at times of physical/mental/emotional crises.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:

The Intake & Case Worker will have completed Secondary School, plus specialized training and courses including, but not limited to:
- Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of one academic years
- Training/Certification in Addictions and/or Mental Health issues
- Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
- Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, or willingness to be trained.
- WHMIS 2015
- Certification in FOODSAFE Level 1
- Universal precautions
**Experience**:
- Minimum one year of experience of case work with individuals working through addiction and/or mental health issues
**Required Skills/Knowledge**:
- Computer skills and training in Microsoft Office, Word, Outlook & Excel
- Fluent spoken and written English
- Alternative combination of education and experience might be considered
**OTHER CONDITIONS / REQUIREMENTS**
- Successful obtainment of the _Criminal Record Review Act _clearance to work with vulnerable adults through the Criminal Records Review Program
- Successful obtainment of clearance through The Salvation Army Child Abuse Registry
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- A clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
