The Children’s Case Worker will provide a day-to-day Children’s Program, including counseling, emotional support, recreational and educational activities, assistance with schoolwork, crafts, and teaching of non-violent behaviors.

This position requires liaison with daycares and public schools, maintaining statistical information and assisting mothers in non-violent parenting skills.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Responsible for a day-to-day program for the children at Kate Booth House which will encompass the following:

- Children’s intake including goal development
- Design and implement the school program for children ages 5+
- Contact the children’s school to request schoolwork /homework
- During the summer, to plan for full-day activities for the children
- Children’s field trips, assistance with schoolwork, crafts, recreational and educational activities
- Assist children to focus on issues of self-expression, personal feelings, anger control, building of self-esteem, positive non-violent play skills, and decision-making skills and values clarification
- Provided linkage with daycare and public school system
- Complete regular logging related to children and parenting issues
- Maintain statistical information relating to children’s program as requested by Statistician.
- Mediate conflict between children or between parent and child relationship
- Plan and facilitate a weekly parenting group.
- Provide Childcare during appointments and emergency situations.
- Plan and prepare the Kate Booth House Annual Christmas Party and Annual Picnic.
- Organize birthday and other special days for residents.
- Assist in planning special events for house residents.
- Attend regularly scheduled shift coverage, screen and take crisis calls, and do intakes.
- Report disclosures of abuse to MCFD
- Record relevant information in resident's Daily Log and in other necessary forms and reports.
- Perform clerical work as required.
- Provide resident with transportation when needed.
- Assist with meals and chores with residents.
- Orientate new residents as part of intake.
- Care for daily needs of residents.
- Scheduled on-call responsibilities.
- Other duties assigned by the or Executive Director

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:
**Education/Certifications**:

- Certificate in Counselling & Human development
- Child and Youth Care Worker Diploma, or training in PEACE (Prevention, Education, Advocacy, Counselling and Empowerment)

**Experience**:

- 1-2 years of experience working with children and youth
- A relevant understanding of and in the field of Domestic Abuse, particularly its effect on children who have witnessed violence.

**PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES**:

- Relevant understanding of the situation of women who have experienced violence in their intimate relationships, and their children.
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation/training skills; ability assimilate information and communicate with various constituents.
- Excellent writing and oral skills
- Understanding of the needs of victims of absolute homelessness and Domestic Violence
- Understanding of the Cycle of Violence
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Ability to teach and organize group meetings
- Must be comfortable in using the computer and other database programs.
- Valid BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle while on shift is required (driver’s abstract required)
- Training in problem solving and counselling techniques.
- Criminal Record Check for working with children and/or vulnerable adults
- First Aid and CPR certificate Level C.
- Training in problem solving and counselling techniques.
- Ability to work with diverse groups of people (e.g. race, ethnicity, age, class, sexual preference).
- Must have good conflict resolution skills.

**HOURS**:

- Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- A clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
