The **Haskayne School of Business** is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term **Work Integrated Learning Specialist **for approximately 24 months.
The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Specialist position will be based in the Haskayne School of Business, reporting to the Manager of Career Services & Student Experience. The WIL Specialist is responsible for developing, creating, and executing Work Integrated Learning (WIL) programs, including internships, co-ops, and other experiential learning initiatives, to align with both the Haskayne School of Business curriculum and employer needs. This role focuses on designing programs that integrate academic learning outcomes with practical, real-world experiences to ensure students are well-prepared for their careers.
The WIL Specialist works closely with faculty, Career Development Specialists, Employer Relations Specialists, Program Specialists, and industry partners to identify emerging trends and create new WIL opportunities that meet employer demands while supporting student development. The role involves program planning and facilitating, coordinating with employers to design tailored placements, and ensuring the programs stay relevant to both academic and industry standards.
This position requires a high level of innovation and strategic thinking, as the WIL Specialist will be expected to continuously evolve and enhance WIL programs to address shifts in industry needs and student career paths. The ability to build strong relationships with faculty, students, and employers is crucial, as is the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Flexibility is required as the role may occasionally demand work outside regular hours during program launches or key employer meetings.
Given the need for effective communication, both written and verbal, the WIL Specialist must be adept at engaging with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and industry partners.
Due to operational requirements of this position, the incumbent would be expected to work predominantly in-office. The primary hours of work for this position are Monday to Friday, 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M, 7 hours per day (35 hours per week); however, there may be a demand to work outside of these hours. The WIL Specialist position is part of the AUPE Collective Bargaining Unit.
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Oversee the daily operations of WIL programs, including internships, co-ops, and practicums
- Develop and implement processes to manage student placement data, course enrollments, and program tracking
- Lead, coordinate and collaborate with other members of the team to organize WIL events, such as student orientations, workshops, employer engagement sessions
- Manage the admissions process for students entering WIL programs and maintain accurate student and employer records using university systems (such as Orbis, PeopleSoft)
- Provide mentorship and guidance to other staff members regarding WIL programs, ensuring quality and consistency in messaging and delivery when facilitating workshops or advising sessions
- Develop materials and resources to support students and employers involved in WIL programs, including guides, presentations and workshops
- Collaborate with faculty and the Career Services and Student Experience team to design and deliver workshops and information sessions aimed at improving student employability and readiness for the workforce
- Work closely with Career Development Specialist and Employer Relations Specialist, to ensure WIL opportunities align with student interests and employer needs
- Act as a liaison between students and the Employer Relations Specialist, fostering strong relationships and ensuring successful placements
- Work with Employer Relations Specialist to partner with employers and develop new WIL opportunities to promote existing programs at career fairs and other events
- Assist employers/Employer Relations Specialist, in understanding and fulfilling program requirements, including supervision, mentoring, and performance evaluation
- Address and resolve any issues that arise during student placements, ensuring a positive and productive experience for both students and employers
- Track key program milestones and gather feedback from students and employers to assess the effectiveness of WIL initiatives
- Prepare reports on program metrics, including student placements, employer engagement, and learning outcomes
- Recommend and implement improvements to enhance the quality and impact of WIL programs
- Prioritizes own personal development, continuous learning and training
- Maintains professional credentials relevant to the position and engages with such organizations in a way that will reflect positively on the University
