**NATURE OF WORK**:
Under the Supervision of the Coordinator of Forestry, Integrated Pest Management and Horticulture, this employee leads the floral program as well as the urban forest tree planting and establishment programs throughout the community.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Supports Data driven decision making as it pertains to the scope of the horticulture program. Including working with the Co-ordinator and branch data analyst to create, implement and monitor Key Performance Indicators for work progression to assure residents of efficient service delivery of horticulture programs.
Provides leadership to a compliment of permanent and casual team members on activities related to the planting and establishment of horticultural materials.
Leads and creates the best practice tree planting and establishment initiatives provided by civic and contracted services.
Coordinates community tree planting and establishment initiatives and events.
Provides advice and recommendations about best practice to community partners, development community and other internal groups specific to tree planting and survival in an urban environment.
Leads the outdoor floral program throughout the planning, procurement, and execution stages.
Liaises with and provides advice to the Regina Garden Associates in support of the Floral Conservatory.
Liaises with other stake holders such as the Provincial Capital Commission in procuring material for capital and operational programming.
Facilitates and leads educational sessions for the residents and other community groups regarding best practice plant health care for floral programming and arboriculture.
Supports the ongoing maintenance initiatives regarding the GIS tree inventory including day to day gathering of the overall inventory during winter periods with the branch data lead.
Ensures a safe workplace for self and others regarding Occupational Health and Safety Legislation,
Corporate Safety policy and industry best practice initiatives by ensuring that Standard/Safe Operating
Procedures are created, implemented and monitored to ensure a safe, effective and efficient work performance.
Facilitates the resolution of labour relations issues in accordance with collective agreements and recommends appropriate measures, including corrective discipline. May be required to give evidence at grievance proceedings.
Performs other duties as assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Knowledge, Abilities and Skills**:
This position requires an individual with experience in horticultural programs including inside and outdoor floral displays, best practice tree planting and establishment in a prairie environment using an environmentally sustainable lens.
Utilizes a data based decision-making approach by analyzing and comparing statistical trends that identifies potential problems and provide possible solutions for program implementation.
Ability to manage data regarding the urban forest tree inventory and work records including related GIS systems.
Considerable knowledge of the methodology, materials and equipment utilized in carrying out urban forestry programs
Knowledge and understanding of plant physiology and ecology and the ability to diagnose issues as it relates to horticultural programs and urban forestry.
Ability to understand, execute, and communicate oral and written instructions.
Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Manual and regulations with, and applicable to, the positions area of work.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental personnel and relate well to the public.
Ability to plan, schedule, and carry out project work with a minimum of supervision.
Knowledge of safe working procedures and practices related to the work assigned.
Ability to supervise and lead staff

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:
University degree in the Horticultural, Environmental or Biological sciences with a minimum of 5 years experience working in a horticulture or urban arboriculture program.
Must be a current ISA qualified arborist in good standing.
3 years experience leading horticultural teams.
Must be familiar with GIS/GPS systems for tree and floral inventory management.

**WORKING / OTHER CONDITIONS**:
May be required to work weekend, shifts and non-standard hours.
Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver's licence.
