Callioux Law has a busy family law and mediation practice in downtown Edmonton. We are looking for an articling student to join our firm. Must have an interest in family law, litigation and ADR. Experience in these areas is a strong asset.

Applicant will gain lots of experience in client management, client interviewing, negotiations, court drafting, court appearances including docket, chambers, special chambers and trials. Most court appearances are in Edmonton, but regional appearances are sometimes required so a drivers license and car are essential.

Applicants must have:

- Excellent legal writing and research skills including a strong grasp of point first writing;
- Excellent communication skills, including oral, written and computer skills;
- Public speaking or courtroom experience;
- An ability to work on time deadlines and projects with short turn around times;
- Proven customer service skills and ability to work well in a team environment;
- Strong organization and time management skills;
- Creative problem solving and logical thinking skills and often quick thinking skills;
- Calm and professional demeanor;
- Valid degree from a Canadian law school (or equivalent) and the ability to be a member of the Law Society of Alberta (transcripts required);
- Willingness to work with vulnerable individuals and populations;
- A professional attitude and demeanor;
- Commitment to ongoing education and professional development;
- Valid Driver's license (required) and access to vehicle (preferred); and
- An ability to obtain a criminal records check and vulnerable sector check.
- Family Law can be stressful but is never slow or boring. It is always busy and fairly recession proof and every lawyer has a great opportunity in this area to have a thriving and very profitable practice. However if you want to work in family law you should have a strong interest in this area, in courtroom litigation. You will also need to be able to think on your feet. You will also have to manage stress while being helpful, compassionate and maintaining professional objectivity. If you are that person, Callioux Law would like you to be part of our team.
