Reporting to the Director of Professional Practice, and under the direction of the Practice Leader, Respiratory Therapy (RT) or designate, the RT Educator, Tracheostomy collaborates with the Home Trach/Vent (HTV) and Complex Care Teams, the ENT Team, NICU, PICU and other areas across Children’s & Women’s Hospitals, acts as a clinical resource for respiratory therapists, clinical staff, and other learners. Assists and supports respiratory therapists and other clinical staff to deliver quality care for the tracheostomy patient population by providing information based on theory/practice, assessing clinical/technical skills. The RT Educator, Tracheostomy has the delegated responsibility and accountability for the development, planning and delivery of clinical education programs for respiratory therapists. Supports and participates in direct patient care as appropriate, in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.

**What you’ll do**
- Plans, implements and evaluates educational and clinical programs to meet the learning needs of respiratory therapy staff including orientation, clinical teaching and inservice. Develops, and review instructional materials and skill/competency assessment programs. Conducts education, workshop and conference sessions. Maintains program records.
- Provides tracheostomy education to respiratory therapists, medical staff, nurses, and other learners related to tracheostomy clinical practice, equipment, policies and procedures.
- Participates in tracheostomy performance evaluation and competency assessment of respiratory therapists by evaluating and providing formal feedback on clinical competency to certify tracheostomy management skills.
- Participates in the development, communication and evaluation of standards, procedures and protocols for tracheostomy care. Participates in selected Respiratory research activities.
- Facilitates changes in Respiratory practice and provides staff education on new or changed procedures or practices. Participates in related educational and clinical audits. Participates in related Quality Improvement projects as a leader, facilitator or team member.

**What you bring**

**Qualifications**:

- Graduate of an approved school of Respiratory Therapy.
- Three (3) years recent related experience in a Pediatric/Neonatal tertiary care facility including leadership activities or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Successful completion of Canadian Board of Respiratory Care Examination.
- Eligible for registration with the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT) and the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT).
- Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for patient population, including current Basic Cardiac Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, Paediatric Advanced Life Support, and Neonatal Advanced Life Support certification.

You will also bring
- Knowledge of tracheostomy tubes and accessory equipment, management of new and established tracheostomies, and weaning and decannulation of tracheostomies.
- Knowledge of wound care management.
- Ability to communicate and present ideas effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently as well as work effectively in teams.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
