What you'll do

  • In collaboration with Professional Practice Leader & Professional Practice Coordinator plans, implement and evaluate educational and clinical programs to meet the learning needs of respiratory therapy staff including orientation, clinical teaching and inservice. Develop and review instructional materials. Maintain program records.
  • Participate in the performance and skill assessment of staff from an education perspective. Develops skill assessment programs. Certifies staff in specialized skills.
  • Act as a clinical role model and resource for staff and division in the area of expertise.
  • Participate in educational and clinical audits.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement projects as a leader, facilitator or team member.
  • Provide education to learners, respiratory therapists, medical staff, nursing and other health professionals on respiratory therapy related clinical practice, equipment, policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the development, communication and evaluation of standards, procedures and protocols. Participate in selected Respiratory research activities. Facilitate changes in Respiratory practice.

What you bring

  • Graduate of an approved school of Respiratory Therapy.
  • Three (3) years recent related experience in a Pediatric/Neonatal tertiary care facility including leadership activities or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Successful completion of Canadian Board of Respiratory Care Examinations.
  • Eligible for registration (RRT) with the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT).
  • Eligible for registration with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT).
  • Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for patient population.

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines and function efficiently despite interruptions and workload fluctuations.
  • Collaborate effectively with all team members.
  • Use critical thinking skills.
  • Operate all pertinent respiratory related equipment.
  • Demonstrate awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
  • Commit to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act
