The FNESC Summer Work Experience Program was developed to help youth acquire skills through work experience. The goal of the program is to assist youth in gaining work experience and pursuing long-term employment.

Trainee positions will be available in several different departments and four trainees will be selected.

Program Duration: July 10 to September 25, 2023.

**SUCCESSFUL PROFILE**

**Characteristics of an Effective Trainee**
- Willingness and eagerness to follow up on tasks assigned by the Mentor.
- Appropriately exercises professional boundaries and communicates any conflicts of interest should they occur during the partnership.
- A person who likes to set goals and achieve them.
- Willing to learn, grow and ask appropriate questions.
- Always maintains confidentiality and integrity; the Mentee does not discuss or share information outside of the relationship.

**WHAT YOU'LL DO**

**During this Summer Work Experience, you will**:

- Be provided hands-on safety training.
- Have one-on-one Mentorship and be supervised at all times by someone knowledgeable in the area of focus to help guide your skill development.
- Gain specific skills related to the workplace.
- Increase essential skills in oral communications, thinking skills, working with others, reading, document use, writing, numeracy, and digital technology.
- Be inspired ton continue your education and skill development.
- Increase your awareness of workplace requirements and regulations.
- Gain experience to make a transition into employment.

**Duties and Responsibilities of Trainees**:

- Submits all required onboarding documents and documents required by the funder.
- Participates in orientation and any other required one-the-job training, safety training, and skills development.
- Prepares learning goals to review and refine with mentor including a list of career goals and objectives to share with your mentor to develop objectives for the relationship.
- Remains open to developing strengths and workable solutions in a mutually respectful manner and completes progress reports and regularly re-assess needs.
- Commits to meeting with Mentor on a regular basis and participates in how and when those meetings will take place.
- Tells your mentor how you prefer to get feedback and be proactive in requesting feedback.
- Participates in monthly meetings with Mentor, ensuring any follow up assignments are completed prior to the next meeting.
- Is available to attend work on a daily, scheduled basis.
- Has a basic understanding of Microsoft Office, Teams, Outlook, and general computer use.
- Completes an evaluation at the conclusion of the partnership.

**WHAT YOU BRING**

**Qualifications**
- First Nations and Inuit secondary and post-secondary students aged 15 to 30 inclusive;
- registered as full-time students during the preceding academic year and who intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
- legally entitled to work in Canada;
- ordinarily resident on reserve or in recognized communities or on community lands;
- Able to accept delegation and follow tasks.
- Superior listening, communication, and time management skills
- Able to work independently and safely.
