**Salary**: $3,445.58 to $4,701.23 bi-weekly ($89,929 - $122,702/year)

**Role Responsibilities**:

- The River Hazard Manager reports to the Director of River Engineering and Technical Services and oversees a group of approximately 8 highly specialized technical staff responsible for contributing to provincial flood response and recovery efforts, providing river engineering expertise to internal and external clients, and leading provincial flood and fluvial hazard identification initiatives. This position requires both a thorough understanding of the technical aspects of the provincial flood hazard identification program, as well as, the ability to provide key input and related strategic oversight toward the development of provincial flood management strategies and activities. The manager frequently works with political levels, technical experts and policy development specialists to provide flood mitigation advice for Alberta.
- R**esponsibilities include**:

- Contributing to provincial flood preparation, response and recovery efforts.
- Providing river engineering related expertise to internal and external clients.
- Leading provincial flood hazard and flood inundation identification strategies and initiatives.
- Leading provincial hazard identification initiatives (ie. Steep creek assessment, alluvial fan identification, channel migration/erosion identification).

**Qualifications**:
**Requirements**:

- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Science with a focus on hydro-technical engineering/science, geomorphology, hydrology or a related field.
- Minimum 6 years of related experience (eg. environmental science, water science, survey and spatial data, risk management, and flood management.

**Equivalencies**:

- Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

**Assets**:

- Experience and skills in communications, leadership, problem solving, decision-making and negotiations.
- Experience managing technical teams in high pressure environments.
- Excellent interpretation and organizational skills.
- Ability to make decisions and provide advice based on complex and sometimes incomplete technical information.
- Knowledge of Alberta’s streams and implications for hydrologic and hydraulic modelling.
- Related graduate degree(s).
- “Certified Floodplain Manager” CFM designation.
