**Fishing Gear Technician Intern**
**(Canada Summer Jobs)**

Anticipated start: June 10, 2024
Positions to hire: 1
Location: 110 Chain Lake Dr., Halifax NS
Fixed-term for 12 weeks
$22 per hour, 35 hours per week

The Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF) is a national not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to ensuring an appreciation of our natural world and a lasting legacy of healthy wildlife and habitat. By spreading knowledge of human impacts on the environment, developing and delivering educational programs, conducting research, promoting the sustainable use of natural resources, and advocating for effective wildlife policy and regulation, CWF strives for a future in which Canada’s wildlife is conserved for generations to come.

**Position Overview**

Our office is located at 110 Chain Lake Dr. in Halifax, NS and the individual will be expected to work at this location, with the option to work from home at certain times during the work term.
**Key responsibilities**
- Learn about and become familiar with innovative gear technologies and how they operate
- Train fishers in on-demand fishing gear systems
- Measure and collect data in lab and field research
- Maintain and service on-demand fishing gear systems
- Keep complete, organized notes and records
- Support the marine field program as required

**Experience / Skills / Knowledge**

**Required Qualifications**:

- Strong interpersonal skills
- Capable and self-directed
- A working knowledge of Atlantic Canadian fixed gear fisheries
- Strong communication skills

**Assets**:

- A college diploma or university degree on a topic related to fisheries, conservation, or ocean technology
- Experience in commercial fishing
- French language skills
- Marine Emergency Duties (MED) training
- Marine First Aid

**Eligibility**:

- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment,
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment, and,
- is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations.
- Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents._
- International students are not eligible participants._

**Length of Contract**

The anticipated start date for this summer position is 10 June 2024 for a period of 12 weeks.
