**Who we are**: The Public Health Intelligence division has a central role in monitoring and reporting on population health issues, identifying health disparities and emerging threats, conducting research, and advancing applied science and public health practice within the health department. Our goal is for the section's programs and services to be effective, evidence-informed and in accordance with Peel Public Health's strategic plan. The Population Health Assessment section applies epidemiologic and statistical methods to help monitor the health status of Peel residents. We play a major role in assessing and supporting strategic and program priorities for Peel Health and delivery of the Ministry of Health's Ontario Public Health Standards related to the 'Foundational Standard and Protocol', including population health assessment and health equity

**What you will do in this role**:

- Function as data guardian for population health and surveillance databases. This includes ensuring data are used and stored in accordance to data sharing agreements and the Regional health information privacy practices.
- Obtain, clean and analyze data from population health and surveillance databases, and other Region of Peel - Public Health programs, as required
- Use analytical software and tools (such as Stata, ArcGIS Pro, Excel, Power BI) to organize, analyze, report and interpret health data
- Conduct technical analyses and prepare reports of health data for surveillance, population health status monitoring, program planning, program evaluation, answering epidemiologic questions, or for responding to requests for information
- Present data in useful, understandable formats including tables, charts, maps and customized reports using a variety of software (e.g., Power BI, Excel)
- Provide support on technical and analytical issues related to health status and surveillance data
- Provide technical input on database design and maintenance
- Collaborate and provide analytical support to epidemiologists and other internal staff
- Updating and maintaining team procedural documents on health databases

**What the role requires**:

- BA or BSc, preferably in Mathematics or Biostatistics or other related Public Health Sciences
- Minimum of three years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of population health data sources (e.g. IntelliHealth, Canadian Community Health Survey)
- Ability to describe health databases and related policies/methods and limitations.
- Ability to synthesize, analyze, interpret and communicate health/epidemiological information from multiple sources
- Knowledge and understanding of public and community health issues

**Skills/Abilities**:

- Excellent computer skills using statistical software (e.g. R, SAS, STATA), Power BI, Access, Excel and mapping software (e.g., ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro)
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently within an interdisciplinary team setting
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) along with project management and organizational skills
- Excellent attention to details

**Work Mode & Job Location**:at 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga

In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga_ _worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
