The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.
**Position Title**: Sexual Assault Support Centre (SASC) Assistant Manager
**Reports to**: SASC Manager
**Supervises**: Indirectly supervises 2 program coordinators
**Status**: Permanent, Full-time
**Hours**: 37.5 hours per week (Evening and weekend work may be required)
**Compensation**: $65,000 - 70,000 annually with additional benefits package
The AMS Sexual Assault Support Centre (SASC) is a service for all genders located at the UBC Vancouver campus. The SASC is committed to creating a safer campus community free from sexualized violence, which involves providing support services and violence prevention education on campus.
We're currently looking for an experienced individual for the position of the SASC Assistant Manager. Working within an intersectional, anti-oppressive framework, the SASC Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting the SASC Manager with the operations of the AMS SASC in the AMS Nest at UBC Vancouver, providing support for survivors of sexual assault, advocating for university support for those experiencing sexualized violence, and raising the profile of the issue of sexualized violence to the AMS membership and the UBC Community.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
PROGRAM SUPERVISION
- Assists the manager in the implementation of services and programs for the Centre
- Assists the manager and coordinators with daily operations of the Centre
- Shapes the vision and direction of the SASC in conjunction with the SASC team, and AMS Senior Management
- and off-campus
- Supports the manager in identifying, assessing, and resolves operational issues
- Supports the manager in developing and maintaining office protocols and policies
- Works collaboratively with AMS Student Executives, Student Services staff, permanent staff, and other student staff
- Performs and produces work that is consistent with the values of the SASC and the AMS of UBC Vancouver
- Other duties as assigned
SUPPORT SERVICE DELIVERY
- Supports a campus coordinated response to sexual assault and liaises with UBC and community-based services
- Support the manager and Support and Advocacy Coordinator in overseeing the provision of immediate and on-going support, crisis intervention, advocacy and accompaniment services to survivors of sexualized violence, their family members, friends
- Stays current on appropriate resources and referrals for clients
- Supports maintenance of client files, to facilitate case consultation meetings and other client administration
EDUCATION SERVICE SUPPORTS
- Supports the manager and Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator to develop and provide violence prevention programming, including educational workshops, the SASC volunteer program, and other outreach programs
- Support the manager in the creation and maintenance of community of practice
- Engage in outreach and boothing initiatives with the greater university community
**Qualifications and Experience**:
- Relevant post-secondary education in the field of social services, and or a combination of training, education and experience
- A strong understanding and proven experience working with multidisciplinary teams providing trauma-informed care
- Specialized knowledge of sexual assault, including legal and medical systems and procedures
- Experience working in university settings is a strong asset
- Strong understanding of anti-oppression perspectives and approaches in relation to sexualized violence and abuse relationships for all persons. Experience working within a feminist and social justice oriented organization is a strong asset
- Experience in a supervisory role and experience overseeing both unionized and non-unionized staff and volunteers
- Experience liaising and collaborating with community partners, criminal justice system actors, hospitals, and community based organizations
- Experience working with diverse communities
- Previous experience/formal training providing direct and specialized support to survivors of sexualized violence including support group facilitation
- Well organized, flexible, self-motivated and able to work and make decisions independently and collaboratively
- Experience with community engagement and relationship building
- High level of comfort and proficiency in public speaking is an asset
- Experience speaking to media and acting as public representative is an asset
- Experience in curriculum development and facilitating workshops is an asset
- Experience in program development is an asset
- Experience working with volunteers is an asset
