**The Role**

- **_, _**Current Student Communications is responsible for leading, developing and implementing communications strategies and activities for current students at the College, including researching, planning, managing, monitoring and measuring the impact of communications and other related functions. The Manager works closely with the Marketing & Communications Office to uphold College-wide strategy, brand and style standards, and reports to the Vice President, Student Affairs.**Responsibilities**
- Under the general direction of VP, Student Affairs the Manager, Current Student Communications is accountable for the following:
- Managing, mentoring, evaluating and overseeing employees who report to the Manager, Current Student Communications;
- Developing, implementing and evaluating communications strategies for current students at the College to maximize student outreach, persistence, engagement and retention;
- Content strategy and implementation for current student communication channels including, but not limited to, current student social media, digital signage, newsletters or any other channel identified by the Manager as a priority for current student communications
- Overseeing, monitoring and evaluating daily current student communications activities;
- Conducting ongoing research in the form of scans, audits or surveys of College communications touch-points that impact current students and evaluating their effectiveness;
- Collaborating with Student Affairs leadership and other student service departments, Marketing and Communications, Institutional Effectiveness and other College partners to develop strategy and implement communications for current students;
- Developing strong positive and constructive relationships and open communication with key personnel in academic units and relevant student-facing service areas;
- Providing insight on the direction and use of appropriate and inclusive language for current student communication, including the implementation of content strategies, in addition to managing the flow and changes of the content development;
- Collaborating with Foundation and Alumni Relations and MCO on alumni communications, and contributing to pre-graduation alumni outreach;
- Collaborating with Student Affairs leadership in the use of the college-wide customer relationship management system;
- Highlighting potential external communications strategies for the College;
- Acting as a support for crisis communications and issues management at the direction of the Crisis Communication Protocol and direction of Director, MCO
- In collaboration with MCO, drafting briefing notes, plans, web pages, social media posts and other forms of current student communication;
- Participating in relevant professional organizations and keeping current on relevant emerging opportunities;
- Under the direction of the VP, Student Affairs, representing the College and College interests before various organizations and groups;
- At the request of VP, Student Affairs, informing the Vice President’s Academic Council or Senior Management Team on matters relating to current student communications;
- Exercising signing authority on behalf of the Department for expenditures as assigned;
- Sitting on assigned committees as required; and,
- Performing other related duties as required.
**To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need**
- Established professional credibility as evidenced by a degree from an accredited post-secondary institution in a related area of study like communications, marketing or journalism, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Minimum of 7 years experience working in a professional communications setting with at least three years of experience at a management level;
- Experience working in a unionized environment and post-secondary setting strongly preferred;
- Extensive knowledge of and experience with communications theory, strategies, practices, and techniques;
- Demonstrated knowledge of all provincial and federal by-laws and regulations as they relate to and impact communications to persons in and outside of Canada, such as the Accessible B.C. Act, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), and the British Columbia Human Rights Code.
